Overcast
Total Time = 2h 15m 4s
Overall Rank = 23/26
Age Group = F18-29
Age Group Rank = 5/5
Pre-race routine:

The Olympic distance started earlier so we had arrived well before the race.
Just had a bit of a plod around and got our stuff and set up.
Everyone loves my bike
My zip on my tri suit broke and I almost didn't race but for some reason Peter had spare tri gear in his bag so I wore that.
Event warmup:

Short swim. The pond was very warm and Amy was shitting bricks so I just talked to her a bit.
Swim
  • 12m 48s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 34s / 100 meters
Comments:

I still need to do something about my open water swimming. Good swimmer but I'm quite slow once I get into a tri.
I had trouble when I left the water though, and was dry retching from the cough and cold I've had over the last few weeks. I was a little bit better by the time I got out onto the bike though
What would you do differently?:

Not a lot.
Transition 1
  • 02m 3s
Comments:

I had trouble getting into my shoes as there is a hill right out of transition.
What would you do differently?:

I need to practise getting into my shoes better and doing them up. That was shit.
Bike
  • 1h 00m 52s
  • 24 kms
  • 23.66 km/hr
Comments:

Good bike leg for me after last week. I like the bike. Felt good coming off onto the run too.
What would you do differently?:

I need some more legs.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Dawdled a little as transition was around gravel and stuff.
Toes and hands were numb.
Run
  • 57m 35s
  • 5 kms
  • 11m 31s  min/km
Comments:

I ran most of the way apart from the three drink stops and the second half of the big hill.
I was a bit off kilter on the road because it was on an angle and the angle was low on my short leg side which makes things hurt a lot.
The second half of the run was dirt so was a bit bitter, but the big hill was literally a km long so struggled a little bit.
What would you do differently?:

Just learn to run.
Post race
Warm down:

I went for a swim with Lisa.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cold.

Event comments:

Local club ran the race so it was good for that.
i didn't find enough drink stations on the run, I needed a bit more water.
Good location and good race though.

Have a goal when you get into the water. If your purpose is distance, then set your pace for endurance. If your objective is speed, then incorporate drills.

Club or group workouts are very motivating and soon you’ll start feeling like a triathlete, making you less likely to flake out.
