I got in and it will be my first HIM. Looks like it filled up in less than an hour this year.

I got in! looking forward to this race a lot. It'll be my 5th 70.3.

I've been selling wine (as a distributor) for nearly 16 years. This race has always been a bucket-list race for me to do so I can mix in some business - - and when I mean business, I actually mean just setting up some tours and tastings at some wineries.

Going to be my first time up there. How's the swim? How hilly is the bike? Is the run hilly as well?

I did the Full Vineman in 2012, doing the 70.3 this year.

Swim is nice...clean water and an "up and back" in the Russian River that has little current. It's a bit narrow, which makes staying fairly straight pretty easy. A few spots are very shallow, as in you can touch the bottom with your fingers! Some/many, will stand up and walk in the 2 spots I recall....one is about 1/3 of the way out and the other is at the turn around.

Bike is more rolling hills than anything else. There are a few short climbs with Chalk Hill being the only longer climb...and even that is maybe a 300 elevation gain over about a mile...steepest part is maybe 5% to 6%...so really not too bad. Check out the elevation map on the Vineman website. You'll hear many people complain about the road conditions....sure, a few spots are bad, but overall, these roads are no worse that what I'm used to riding here in Orange County, Ca. Some parts are very nice, most are just "ok"...not bad and not great.

The run is different between the Full Vineman and the 70.3, so I can't comment on the 70.3. The full was also just some rollers...granted, they felt bigger than they were in the heat!

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.
