When I (briefly) used some, they were the Cycleops Aluminum with Resistance.  No problems with them at all and the resistance unit provided lots - not as much as a trainer though.

And another question......we were using 3 inch rollers.  I see some 4 and 4.5 inch rollers while searching around.  Can somebody school me on the differences. (yes, I know 3 is smaller than 4 and 4.5

Off the top of my head I think smaller means more resistance?  I can't find anything to back that up though...

I have a set of Kreitler aluminum that are very solid. Would give e-motion some very strong consideration if doing it again as they have some things to help stay on the rollers more easily. You can still fall over, but don't think it's quite as dangerous with theirs.

As for size, the bigger the roller the LESS resistance they have. Basically, the tire deformation is more spread out on the larger rollers, maintaining closer to its original shape. The smaller rollers cause the tire to deform more. More deformation, more resistance. So you probably don't want the larger ones given how strong you guys are. I have the larger 4.5" ones and kinda wish I'd gone smaller. I have a fan that works into the unit to provide more resistance, but it's loud, annoying, and the rollers lose some of that feel they're known for.

Love my E-Motion Rollers. Probably have 15,000 miles on them. Great product with magnetic resistance if you need it.

Cheapos from Performance.  Had them for years.  Replace the band every ther season.  Only wish they were more portable.

Cheapo folding rollers w/ 3.25" plastic rollers. The rollers have a bit of a lip on the ends so that, while you can ride off of them, the lip gives you a fraction of a second of warning to get back on track.

In my highest gear (50T front, 11T back), I still wish it had some more resistance, but basically I do 90% of my indoor training using a mag trainer (and Sufferfest!), and just use the rollers for 10-15 min. of cool down so I can keep my balance up to par. If rollers were my only indoor option, I'd definitely get smaller than 3.25" for more resistance.

Living in S. Fla., I really only train indoors M-F pre-dawn and ride outside on weekends.

Kreitler 4.5" with flywheel. Love em. The flywheel adds resistance and makes them very road like.

Here is the wattage chart for the different sizes:

Agree with budget "travel trac" rollers from performance. They work fine.
