I'm in. this will be my second 1/2. I completed my first 1/2, the Musselman, in July.
Being 1/2 hour from home, how could I pass it up. Looking foward to what a WTC event is like.

My first HIM and only a 5 minute ride. There are about 10 people and spouses here at work who have all signed up.

I'm in. This will be my first HIM. As most of the others have said, I couldn't pass this up. This is about 30 mins from my front door. Couldn't have worked out any better. Sleeping in my own bed and a home cooked meal in the morning. Close enough that my wife and kids can go as well.

Question - Is it normal for WTC to open up registration for an event without even having up the maps for the bike or run? I won't be going over to practice on the bike course until the weather gets a bit warmer, but I would like to map it out and check out what type of hills and stuff I am going to be covering. The run should be fairly flat as I think it stays within the park the entire time.

Yeah...for new races, not uncommon to still be working out the course. But they said the bike course has slight hills to start and end, and flat in the middle. No major climbs.

I am in!!!!

This will be my first half ironman. I think driving 70.3 miles is kind of tedious... let's see how it is to swim bike and run it

Looking forward to chatting with the folks here!

General reg is now closed so 2500 people are in!
only took a month to sell out which I think is pretty quick, especially for a new race.
9 months to go!

course maps for swim and run are up.
so I ran the course this morning as I was in the area, had some time and I really wanted to. here is the link: http://tpks.ws/hcOj as you can see I was a little slow - my body didn't like the 2 degree wind chill so much!. the path by the lake was a sheet of ice with a 1 inch covering of snow on top. certainly had to be a little cautious for the first mile of each loop. other than that paths were pretty good. no one else had been on them which helped as there was a little snow for traction. the roads in the college were clear so no problem. overall its a pretty flat course. from about mile 1.25 - 2.15 there is a gradual climb up to the college campus. once you get back in the park on the main through road - Paxson Ave - the road is undulating. the biggest incline will be at the end from mile 12 - 12.75 on Paxson ave as you climb up to the finish line area. the paths are about wide enough to run 3 abreast so as long as people keep left there should not be too many issues. going through the college I am pretty sure I am close to the actual course. kind of hard to tell with the big piles of snow but my route looks pretty similar to the course map from the website. with a two loop course there will be plenty of spots for spectators to see you as well. also important to note, the finish line is about 0.5 miles from T2.

Love the fact that you said you took it easy because of the snow and ice and still avg'd like 8:30pace. hahaha. Way out of my league. Your not in the M 40-44 group are you

I can't wait until the weather breaks and I can get a chance to get over there an run it myself. Just curious, are you familiar with the area, or did you read the turn by turn directions on the website or did you program the route into your device and have it give you directions? I looked at the course online today and I would have been lost out there probably.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I will be in the 40-44 age group. I turn 40 in April so was depressed to read on the entry list my age listed as 40 when I am clearly still 39!
having said that there are two other parts to the race as the run is my strongest leg in any race. I suck at swimming, and my biking is ok. my plan at this point is to pass a lot of people on the run!
I have run and raced in the park (have done the NJ State tri) a number of times before so was familiar with the paths. for the college part of the course I just went on google earth and zoomed in to follow the roads and compared it to the course map. the college is pretty small so there are not that many options for the route so I am confident I was pretty accurate. it did measure 13.2 as I think I went a little to far down the final out and back right by the finish line.
I plan on running it a lot and riding the bike course a lot as well. I live 25 minutes away and so want to be up there as much as possible.

i haven't actually seen the bike course yet but i have some friends who are cops in the neighboring towns we'll be riding through and they've said it goes through some real busy intersections that they'll shut down on race day but will probably make it difficult for practice rides (at least through those parts).

I did a half iron distance last year in the Adirondacks. I was not too happy with my training as I signed up late and didn't train as much as I should have.. Looking forward to P'ton!

For those who know the route... Is this a generally ride able / trainable route? I live in North Jersey but would love to come familiarize myself with the course before September.

For the most part yes. The first few miles outside of the park are not real bike friendly - specifically Mercer St, Yardville-Hamilton Sq Rd and Broad St but after you get out to Old York Rd it becomes fairly rural and generally you'll see a lot of other bikes out there.

Somebody on facebook posted a map of the bike course on the Princeton Ironman page. Doesn't look bad. After the halfway point it looks to be a nice slightly downhill ride coming in. Only 600 or so feet of total elevation as well.

Hey all... question for you folks that have raced 70.3+ a few times already --- how often did you (or do you plan to) race prior to the event? This is my first season stepping up to long course racing. Making sure I got enough training volume and recovery time from racing never really factored into my schedule in the past when I was doing sprints/Olys. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
