Originally posted by perrykvn I have had shin issues the last few weeks. I have only run once in the last 3 weeks but I have been biking and swimming. Today will be the first race I DNS due to injury. It is for a charity that a friend runs so I am going to help out and cheer other runners on. Hopefully I will e able to start my running back this week.
Real bummer.  I had a DNS for a HM in 2012 when I had a calf attack at a 10k the week before and got so bad I had to see a PT.  Get well!

Had my first outdoor ride since early Dec.  The past several weeks of working on the trainer have been great as I went 54 miles today with minimal impacts on my legs with the 2nd half all headwind!  Feeling better about the HIM in 4 weeks.  Tomorrow is a 6.5 miler run.

Everyone working hard!?!

Took Sunday off as we decided to revamp the kids bathroom, apparently the paint and decorating theme for 4 year olds isn't a hit anymore with our 12 & 14 YO!

I did a 10 mile run yesterday morning, 8.2 with the dog, then another 1.8.  Knees were a wee bit sore afterwards but are fine today.

I'm looking at fitting in a swim and a trainer ride later today.

-24 days and counting...

Not at all, still getting rid of this cough. I could do stuff, but past experience has shown I need to be much farther along or it'll just get extended out. Frustrating, but has to be done.

Yes, I've had a couple of active weeks; however, my training is all over the place due to travel, and mostly lack of organization, I've been doing whatever I feel like every day, which is kind of fun, but very likely very effective. I ran a lot - 5 times - last week, and started this week with a bike ride on Monday, run today, will swim tomorrow; so, all is well.

Just check out my training log. I'm working my butt off! Friday is my day off, and taper starts like Tuesday or Wednesday next week. Pushing towards the light at the end of the tunnel.

19 days to go for me!

It looks like we'll be racing on the same day, 13 days to go now!

I went on a tempo run yesterday, felt pretty decent. I'm hoping to focus on swimming next two weeks, and try to get at least one brick workout, I haven't done any back-to-back workouts this year yet, and want to get a feeling for running off the bike before the race.

Well the move didn't ruin me as much as I thought. I ran the Phoenix Marathon on Saturday. You can go to my race report to get more details but I qualified for Boston with a time of 3:00:53, was 32nd overall out of a supposed 4000 participants and 8th in my age group. I am happy and relieved that its over and most relieved that I never hit the wall.

Had a good week running wise last week, 10 and 11.5 miler were done and no leg issues.  Have some trainer rides this week and a bunch of swimming to do.  19 days out from the HIM and 13 weeks to the A-race sprint.  Man time fly's!

Taper starts Wednesday! I'd be doing my happy dance, but my legs are too tired.

I NAILED my last tempo run. 6 miles of tempo in a 10 mile run, all under 8:00. Holy freaking crap. My 10k PR is like 52:something, and I just ran 6 miles in under 48 minutes.

The cool thing about this is that I feel that I'm nowhere near my potential as an athlete. I'm seeing consistent improvement, and I haven't plateaued. This is fun

I had my longest swim session ever, 2600m and wasn't as tired as expected, but felt a little soreness in my right shoulder at the end of the workout, which is hopefully just the result of the increased effort. I've been doing a lot of drills to help with bi-lateral breathing, and am starting to feel more comfortable breathing to the left. I feel like I've made some decent progress in the last 6 weeks; although, I still don't feel faster at all.

The injury bug has reared its ugly head to me for the first time ever. Training has been going really well, sticking to the plan but last Thursday after my 10 mile run I have some pretty bad pain in the outside center of the foot. Was worse the next day and slightly up onto the outer calf although my long bike ride I had no discomfort. Pretty sure it is a little Peronial Tendonitis. After a weekend off I ran 5.5 miles on Monday and sure enough the same pain crops up a few hours later. End up hobbling around for a day or so after running. Going to completely lay off the running for a couple of weeks. I have vacation planned starting at the end of next week which I had arranged a step back week during as well so I think I am just going to eliminate the run until after I get back. Hopefully this will get me healed up and I can then gradually add back in some run miles. Will continue my training plan with the swim and bike until then.. Ugh.

I have been going thru the same thing. It has been over a month mow and it is killing me not being able to run. My PT has me doing strtching exercises and strength exercises which is helping. Good thing swimming and biking is not a problem. Hope you get over it quickly.

Don't lose focus guys! Injuries SUCK and it's really easy to let it get to you mentally. Keep working the swim and bike!

I hope you guys get better soon. I had peroneal tendonitis early last year, and was unable to run for 5 months, I could barely walk some days. I was extremely frustrated and even depressed; so, take as much take off as needed to avoid long layoffs, I kept trying to come back too early

The off-season is the best time to fine tune your skills and prepare yourself for the next season. It is also time for you to gain some strength and get a little rest after a long season of training.

If you develop a strategy for the off-season, you can go into the next season stronger than you ended the past season.
