New half distance triathlon in 2014 in Alton, IL.  I'm intrigued, as it is located near me (I live south of St. Louis).  Doesn't appear to be a real challenging course, but the time of year is good for closing the season on a high note.

I have been pleased with other events produced by this race management team.  Looking forward to the registration opening on January 15th.

The swag looks cool:

I saw this. Isn't there some kind of traveling trophy for Illinois/Missouri? I thought that was an interesting twist.

I got wind of this one looking through BT's race listing. The website is available now, although several sections don't have any info yet. I've run one race by RMP (Try Tri last spring) and although very lightly attended it seemed like they knew what they were doing. Just hard to get much of a gauge on it with <70 competitors in a sprint.

I'm on the fence right now. I had to take two months off of training to take care of my wife at the end of last year, and so I'm back at it again but pretty much starting from scratch again. October is far enough away that I will be able to get in proper shape to finish the race, and the fact that it's pretty flat (but at least scenic) is a plus for me. Trying to talk myself into it but need to be "certain" I'm not throwing my money in the can with a new first-year event.

I registered yesterday to take advantage of the bag upgrade.  They said they had 96 registrants as of this morning.  They are also giving out training shirts if you register before 1/31.  Your team is identified on the back (East vs West).  Good way to get your registrants to advertise for you.

Definitely wish I would have read my email yesterday instead of today and seen the bag upgrade offer. Whoops!

Recieved the training shirt and broke it in this morning with some speedwork on the treadmill.

I hope to represent the East side well.

I haven't signed up yet, but am planning on doing this as my first 70.3!

See you there!

My first triathlon was at age 56. At first I was just the cameraman at my daughter's first triathlon, then I am doing the races that she has done.
