I am currently sitting at 477miles, so ahead of the bunny but I am losing pace a little. Almost to the point I may fall below 100 miles for May, but I am ok with that as tri season continues to pick up pace and I slowly realize it is actually about the bike.

on a positive note! I finally broke 21:00 in a 5k, barely but at 20:57 it's under 21:00! I have been trying for over a year to get to this point, and you know what my 1st thought was.....how do I get to 20:00! I think I may be obsessed!

Congrats on breaking 21 minutes.  That is tough to do.  Once you start dropping below 7 minute miles that's some pretty fast stuff.

I realize this challenge group has been going on for some time, but if no one objects, I'd like to try to join in the fun.

Personal History: My name is Michael, screen name mandsberry. I started running towards the end of 2008, shortly before my 40th birthday, and to finally gain control of several years of weight and health (type-2 diabetes) issues. Since then, other than a few brief periods regular activity, I've mostly slid back into my sedentary lifestyle for fairly sizable gaps. This year, I started off with my worst diabetes results ever, and a stark warning from my physician to make a real change while I was still able to. Four months later, I've shed almost 40 pounds (I'd like to drop another 20 still), and all my cholesterol and blood sugar levels have returned to normal ranges.

Since 2008, I've averaged between 300 - 400 miles running each year. Last year, I did make it to 710 miles for the year, but more than half of that was before St. Patrick's day in prep for a Full Marathon. 2010 was an injury plagued year (IT Bands) that I only managed 120 miles. (Writing that down makes it seem like I really slacked off that year. Sheesh.)

Currently, I'm at 272 miles. That puts me at a bit behind the rabbit, so to speak, but with a HIM in September, and a Full Mary in November, I'm confident that with consistency, I have a shot at breaking the 1000 mile barrier.

Family wise, I've got a wife, three girls, ages 20, 9, and 7, and a yellow Labrador Retriever. Most of my running miles are late night, on my treadmill, after I put the girls down for bed. While a lot of folks gripe about the treadmill, it keeps me off the sofa, away from the TV, and not eating late night snacks.

Anyway, I've got a few more pages in this thread to get caught up on everyone... as well as a few more miles.

At 642.02 miles.  This month is going to be a lower volume month then normal.  I had my first Marathon on Sunday and it was awesome.  The calve is a bit sore from it, but I should be fine with another day of rest.

I'm going to officially join the group too. I made a goal to run 1000 miles at the start of this year and am currently at 375....so about 16 miles behind the pace.

Welcome to you! I love your writeup and it sounds like you are like me where sometimes putting pen to paper produces an ephiphany regarding life. Check in here frequently because we would like to help you on your journey. Sounds like you have too many special blessings to lapse back into those bad numbers again.

Welcome to you also. Love to have people join us. Only 16 miles behind pace is great.

Justin, how was your first mary? Tell us. Are you planning another or do you have to develop amensia (sp?) before signing up again?

Dang, Matt, you are fast, fast, fast!

Well, I'm telling all of the newcomers to check in here frequently and I haven't been doing that. Mostly I've been ashamed of my numbers. ;-( But I was in the same state last year about this time but found my mojo and finished last year over 1200 miles. Now I've been in a semi-slump because of real life but actually see a light at the end of the tunnel. Two more days of a jam packed morning routine that has been keeping me from wanting to run in the morning. After those two days, I will have more time in the morn and should be able to get back to 3 to 7 miles in the morn. Yay!!!!!!!! Went this morn and found the temps in the mid 70s very refreshing. Was slower but got in 6 miles and quite enjoyed it. I'm still way behind the bunny but I'll catch up with him in the fall. Prob about 330 miles right now.

Hi guys I hope you are all having a pleasant Memorial Day. I did a club ride, nice 41 mile route I have not ridden before, horses hills and honeysuckle!

Welcome to our newest members! happy to have you.

I am a little over 700 so far. I have a sprint tri in June and one in July so adding the swimming back in and biking has been a challenge but one I have enjoyed. Holding close to my 30 mph run goal, just made it this week.

Mary

The first marathon was awesome.  I can't wait to do it again.  I'm already trying to find ones that work around my schedule.  I think I love the long distances .  Have my first ultra in September to, decided to just jump right on that bandwagon.

Welcome to the new folks and I hope all are enjoying the Spring.

I'm at 711 miles and am thrilled to be able to keep logging the miles while trying to increase my swim/bike.   I just wish I had more time.  First tri of the year is in a week and a half (Olympic distance) and I'm doing the Seattle Rock n Roll marathon in about a month.

341 for the year so far, still behind the pace bunny but trying to get ready for an OLY this weekend.  I'll be much more run-focused this summer.

Can't wait to hear how your Oly turns out Mike.  Be sure to save enough for those last few miles as I know you will be charging hard.  Good luck!!

May is in the books for me. I finished with 115.8 miles ran in May, for a year-to-date total of 308.7. I'm still behind the average, but making progress.

Also of note, May had my second highest biking mileage for any month ever, so I consider that a huge plus.

I've got 1 race in June, an Oly on the 15th, Rev 3 Williamsburg.

May total came in at 100.43, just barely over the century mark so the streak continues with 100 mile months (6) and consecutive days running (185). For the year I am sitting at 532 miles, which is about 30 miles off my target (1350).

Here is a link for the 1000 mile pace rabbit. Currently the pacer for 1000 miles is at 419.18.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0An7ZkKfHG1L1dGZnamsyaVV...

I'm behind at 354.7. Schedule has changed now so I'm hoping to start getting in my 100+ per month which means I've still got multiple months before I catch that blasted rabbit. Congrats to all that are keeping pace, exceeding pace, or right near!

Okie dokie, I am back! I got really lucky and only ended up not running for a little less than two weeks (the estimated recovery was 6 weeks.)

I haven't lost too much ground to the rabbit and am at 1,253!

From  to in 13 days!

Whoa, didn't know about the surgery and had to read prior pages to catchup. Girl, you are AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read your Boston RR! Wow. My first mary, I was sick and coughed up a lung in a portapotty but dang, I could never hit a 3:18 - healthy or sick or amped up higher than Lance. 'Course my mileage is a tenth of yours so I get what I put in and you get what you put in. Sorry about the Boston sickness but still - best RR I've ever read. No excuses, no whining, just outright honesty. So very glad that you are doing well after the surgery. Go strong and well, my friend.

Awww thank you!

And to your point about mileage, I was reading a blog post the other day talking about running and they also discussed how ehhhh - honest(?) running is in terms of getting back exactly what you put in. I think that is one of the things I like most. There aren't any shortcuts. You can't buy speed.

But yeah, thanks again I am really excited to run another marathon and hopefully get a little closer to my potential. Which, I should mention, I am signed up for one in December! W00t w00t!

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
