I've been watching this thread for a bit now, especially once I realized I was well on track for 1000 miles for the year. Like most guys that get off the couch and get active I have pushed hard and fast, probably too hard and too fast, but it is totally worth it.

In my first full year of running and tri'ing I have just crossed over the 1000 mile mark with more to go. I have ran three HM's, one HIM, a sprint and olympic tri, a 12 and 10K snow/freezout run, A 4 mi stupid steep hill race, and my first marathon (in just under 3:41, not bad for a first timer ). Coming up I will run my first 50k trail run on Saturday (still recovering from my first marathon last Saturday) and one more HM. The HM is a repeat of my first one. I am excited to see how much improvement I have made in one year.

I still get chicked by one of my friends on everything 13.1 or longer, but I'm getting faster with more endurance. I am improving every race, and the competition helps me improve. I might be able to hold her off on my final 13.1 of the year, but it will take a lot of hurt to get it done

I'm not fast, but I'm faster than average. Thanks to all the BT peeps. I am a voracious reader, and I scan these forums for advice, witticisms, and general support. I've gotten great advice, and been entertained.

We are right at 3/4 of the way done with the year. The rabbit is at 747.05 and on Oct 1, he will be at 750.69. Everyone on pace?

I'm at 831 right now so hopefully will make it to my goal of 1200.

Checking back in at the 3/4 mark. At 1486 miles. Doubtful I will make my 2000 miles I agreed to as a johnny come lately. I have quite a few miles to run between now and my Mary on November 8th, but after that it will be mostly about swimming and cycling in prep for a TRI in December. I'll give it a shot though.

Hi guys, sitting at 1347 right now. I am wondering if I can make 1,700 for the year. I have a full, two half's and a 10 miler still on the calendar for the year. Should be close but I am going to shoot for that number!

I am sore today after a big weekend of miles. It is such a satisfying sore though! I earned it which feels really good.

I hope you guys run well this week.

That's a nice way to cross the 1000 mile mark. Good luck with the marathon.
Looking good for me to reach 1000 this year - I just passed 900 miles. Previously 850 was the most that I ever did in one year.

I am currently sitting at 945, so I should cross the line in about 2 weeks, which also keeps me on pace for my 1200 mile goal.

All the miles are starting to pay dividends also, ran a Half yesterday as a training run to practice on pacing and was able to set a PR by over a minute. Surprising part was that I did it with no test, poor fueling and what felt like minimal effort. I have another half scheduled in November that hopefully will get me under the 1:40 mark!

Looks like everyone is doing great. I actually crossed the 1000 mile barrier a little over a week ago. I am very proud of my training this year since it's been a bigger bike and swim year. Bike still isn't where I want it to be. I know this is a run challenge but had to share since I just figured it all out this morning!

My 2014 totals thus far:

Swim- 148.5 miles
Bike- 2,836 miles
Run- 1037 miles

IMFL is a week from Saturday and then I think I'll take some time off from biking and swimming and spend more time lifting and running! Good luck to all of you as you tackle the last two months of the y ear!

That is a lot of biking and swimming.  It is already tough to put up big numbers for miles running but when you add big numbers for swimming and biking too the challenge is so much more difficult to manage.

I have a goal of 2,500 miles of biking and 180,000 yards swimming in addition to 1,500 miles of running.  The swimming might be a little tough as the motivation for me to swim decreases pretty dramatically knowing I wouldn't do another tri for months.  I really have to force myself to the pool each time I go now.  I'd much rather spend my time and energy running but I do not want to give back gains made swimming/biking over the last year.

A lot of travel for me in October, so my totals are down a bit for the month, but still look good for breaking 1000 for the year.... I may make 1100. We shall see.

What was originally scheduled as a "fun" half marathon a couple weeks ago turned into a memorable event. Race morning had perfect weather, temps in low 60's with almost no wind. Decided to take a "run" at my 5 year old Half Marathon PR of 1:56:59.... the only sub 2 hour time I've ever run.

There was a 1:52 pacer group in my corral, so at the last minute, I decided I'd try to hang with them. I'd had some really good eight mile runs lately at about an 8:20 pace, so I wanted to see what I could hold. I was feeling so good two miles into the event, that I started to break away from the pacer group. As the miles ticked off, I was banking time every mile... 15 seconds here, 20 seconds there. After a while I thought, so long as I don't blow-up, I had a shot at going 1:50. At mile 10, I was still feeling like a champ and was on schedule, so I picked up the pace a bit more.

Two mild hills (freeway overpasses) in the final mile spiked up my HR, but I managed to hang on and cross with a new PR time of 1:47:22. A HUGE improvement for me. (I ran 2:08 in March, and was completely gassed at the finish.)

I always enjoy a nice cold beer after a half-marathon, but on that day, they were especially enjoyable after SMASHING my PR by almost 10 minutes!!!!

I'm playing a bit of catch-up at the moment, but I'm liking my chances at finally going under 4:00 for my Full Mary next month.

Nice PR and good luck with the Mary. Assuming you have the mile base, you should "easily" run under 4 hours. I have a Mary coming up in November too, which one are you doing? For me, it's Rock 'n' Roll Savannah. Ran their San Diego race in June and loved the organization and vibe (just not the hilly course.)

I'm at 2464.

As some of you know I have a a couple of setbacks this year that were a little out of my control. One was a surgery and most recently (and unfortunately) I was randomly assaulted and ended up needing surgery, again. I've bounced back (my coworkers call me wolverine) but it's been less than ideal run training.

It will be down to the wire on whether or not I hit 3K but I am relatively happy either way, all things considered.

I ran a 5K for fun over the weekend, here is my race report

I needed a little fun run and this was just the ticket!

This makes me wonder how a wolverine compares with a honey badger for toughness?

Like I said in your RR, keep up the good work.

I think one of your biggest limiters in the race was likely endurance. What was your average weekly mileage and how long were your long runs typically?

I find the most success in HM to be of course frequency and volume, but also over-distance training for the long run. (usually in the 15-16 mile range, with the weekly mileage to support it)
