Subject: Used 2009 Cervelo P2c...good/fair/bad deal?
Hey everyone I found a very lightly used 2009 blue/silver Cervelo P2c on craigslist for $1200 shipped and I'm trying to judge if this is a excellent/good/fair/bad deal. It's in nearly perfect condition, has between 1k-2k miles on it, everything stock including wheels, and ultegra components. I don't know much about used bike prices so I wanted to get your help before I pulled the trigger on it.

It is exactly like the one in this in this ad except it has r500 wheels instead

Thanks in advance!

Good. But if you want to know for yourself, google P2c's for sale and see if you can beat the deal. I doubt you'll get a much better price for the components.

If the bike fits you it is a good bike and price is pretty good. If it is local go ride it and see if you can talk them down a couple hundred.

Only problem is that the bike is quite a ways away from me and I am going to have to have it shipped so there is not a chance for me to test ride before purchase. I talked the guy down to $1200 including shipping and I was hoping that I didn't do too badly. My riding style isn't super aggressive so thats why I thought I should go with the P2 rather than a more aggressive style bike. I tried to read as many reviews as possible before I pulled the trigger. Hopefully I dont regret my purchase!

Those of you with P2s do you ever wish you would have gone another route?

The P2C is one of the real workhorses in the triathlon bike market. It's dependable and offers very few compromises. But that's only true as long as it fits, otherwise you may very well get slower by switching from a road bike… There's nothing magical about the tri bike that makes you faster, it's the riders position that makes the package (i.e. bike plus rider) faster.

$1200 for a P2C with Ultegra is reasonable. You're not going to find a new $1200 bike that offers the same value. Keep in mind this is assuming everything is well-maintained and that the wear parts has been changed out over the years. A 4 season old bike (5 calendar years, but I assume no racing has been done in 2014…) would need new cables, housing, brake pads, chain, possibly cassette and chainrings (depending on milage and maintenance). That would all add up, so you if that needs to be replaced, now you're looking to equivalent of a $1600-1700 bike, and by that time, you may find 2013 close outs brand new with warranty, making the P2C much less attractive.

$1200 seems like a fair price if the bike fits and it is well maintained.

That said, I would be extremely cautious about buying a bike of CL that requires shipping and you cannot physically inspect.  You have no buyer protection with CL.

On a side note, I sort of chuckle every time I see a bike advertised as 1-2k miles on it.  The bike is 5 years old.  Who the heck only rides a $2500 bike 200-400 miles a year?  Everytime I see such low miles on a bike I always wonder if it's a good thing because it's in good condition...or if it's a bad thing because the owner neglected the bike and let it sit in their garage untouched for 3.5 years (especially if it wasn't cleaned well after the last use).

Agree with this.

Also if you do go for this bike, make sure that proper amount of insurance is put on the bike for shipping.

I went for this deal...fingers crossed that it's as good as the guy described it to me. He is shipping it today so hopefully it should be here by the weekend. If it isn't then I get a refund and am shipping it back to him.
