Those geometries are quite different and if you're also looking at two different sizes, then I really need to ask… did you get a bike fit? If not, then neither bike, one of them, or both would be right answer… The best deal is the bike that fits YOU, regardless of brand, components, etc. Think about it this way, the tri bike really makes you faster it allows the riders position to be improved, the rider accounts for the vast majority of the drag. This is why, a properly fitting tri bike is so crucial.
When comparing the two bikes, you really need to know what components, condition, how well maintained and how many miles. If one has Sora and one Dura-Ace, then you're obviously not comparing apples to apples… Same thing goes from one with standard box rims and one with upgraded race wheels… Condition is self-explanatory why it's so important. Miles and maintenance are related to wear and what to expect. A poorly maintained bike with a few miles on it will more than likely need to replace the wear parts. Brake pads and cables/housing should be replaced yearly (you may get two years out of them if you ride less and maintain it well ), chains are more than likely yearly but may last longer if you maintain it well, cassettes can be every other year but highly dependent on maintenance, chain rings about every 3 years (the large chain ring tend to be worn out before the small for most of us, which also reflects time in use ). Long story short, the $800 bike may cost of $1200-1300 before you can ride it. Edited by audiojan 2014-01-20 5:43 AM
