In about a month I will run my second 50k.
Training has been going well so far.
I have a recover week currently and then in the next 2 week I will ramp up weekly mileage to 62 miles with a long run of 28 miles.

Today I am scheduled for 6 miles.
Problem is that I have some mild pain in the middle of my left shin and some discomfort in my right foot.
Combined with the fact that the weather is cold, I am thinking if I should rather walk the 6 miles than run them?
Or take a full rest day (I have full rest tomorrow, 19miles Saturday and 7miles sunday).

Thoughts?

I would double up on the rest day myself, if you are doing that kind of milage a week already then taking an extra rest day is not going to impact your program at all. RICE and take a load off for a couple and see how you feel.

What benefit would you get out of walking 6 miles?

You have pain which means possible injury, rest and recover.

Another vote for taking a rest day.

Same for me. I would take some rest and recover.

I think the votes for rest day wins.
Since I have not been in the pool all year, I might just do an easy swim tomorrow...

My thought is that walking would increase blood flow in the legs and thereby aid with recovery.

If you can get to a pool, go water running.

2 days of rest is better than 3 weeks of injury.

Yeah, Pool is fine of course.  But perhaps you can use this time to cross train- let's say leg and core strength training in a way that won't exacerbate your injury?

If all is well with training, and this is not a chronic issue that has been building up over time, you might be surprised how fast you will recover. This is what the miles are all about, after all. Take the day off and evaluate. If you don't feel fresh by the following day, look at your running to see if there is anything that needs tweaking. Are you following your training plan honestly? Not going hard on easy days? Building mileage too fast?

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.
