Total Time = 1h 11m 34s
Overall Rank = 76/361
Age Group = 44-49
Age Group Rank = 10/17
Pre-race routine:

Got there late after slow check in. Put my bike away and layed out all my stuff. Then went to swim area.
Event warmup:

None to speak of. By the time I arrived at the swim area I took a few stokes and tie my wait band tighter then before I knew it we started. This was not a good way to start. But I was mentally very loose and feeling good.
Swim
  • 8h 00m
  • 350 yards
  • 2h 17m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very Very slow start. The starting line was jammed inbetween a dock with a with of 10-15 yards wide. I got stuck behind a group of slow movers. I finally got around them at the buoy but then got behind 3 guys who were side by side blocking me again. I finally lost patience trying to figure a way around them and so I went inbetween them. I then got kicked a few times and I had to kick in the afterburners. But once clear I motored.. unfortunately it didn't help my time all that much because I only had 100 yards to go. Nevertheless, I learned that I've got a lot more swimming in me. and I think my time should have 7 minutes or faster.
What would you do differently?:

Look for ways of getting around people sooner. But I also realize that by going slower at the start I didn't lose a lot of nervous energy and didn't get too spent.

So if possible I want to try to get behind some fast swimmers right away or start out wide of the group and swing in at the bouy.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

I didn't get a transition time. I missed the carpet for the chips. But it went well. I didn't go super fast because I was talking to Roger.
I washed my feet and put on socks too. The slowest part was putting on a shirt.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. If I had a foot bath. I could have picked up a few seconds.
But I think if I just tried to practice more I could gain 10-15 more seconds.
Bike
  • 31m 25s
  • 9.25 miles
  • 17.67 mile/hr
Comments:

I am pleased. I gave it my all.
What would you do differently?:

Use only aater for hydration. I had for the first time some PowerBar mix in my bottle. My first sips and I almost gagged. It almost made me throw up too. Bad decision.. go only with a drink that I have had good results with.
Transition 2
  • 01m 10s
Comments:

My time was decent. But if need to pratice taking my feet out of my shoes before dismounting. This can save me a lot of time. As long as the area isnt not too dirty or sandy. Then I could lose time by washing my feet again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really. Just move faster and try practicing with feet out of shoes and seeing if it makes a difference.
Run
  • 28m 21s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

I went out very slow. Walked the first two hills. and walk the next two hills. Then, after 1.5 miles. My tighs were good and I ran... I ran fast. It felt so good. I guessing I was doing sub 8. It showed that I had a lot of energy left
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. But I need to do transition training BRicks!!! with running hills right off the bat. Next year I need to train on hills too
Post race
Warm down:

none

What limited your ability to perform faster:

hills.

Event comments:

Hard but very excellent and exciting courses with all the hills.

I am very happy with my effort. No.. it is not the 19 mph time I was hoping for. But, in effort it may be better. I am pleased.
