This would include the Chesapeakeman Full Distance triathlon. Does it become IM Maryland? Good thing or bad thing?

I've been wondering that myself. The location would hold large number of athletes as it does for Eagleman for IM distance. I liked doing the AB at ChespeakeMan. I wonder if the new Challenge Atlantic City is  some part of why they are buying this. I think the biggest reason is to keep Eagleman going.

I think this is much better than all the events just going away.

I, too, believe the future of Eagleman was a driving force behind WTC's decision.

They did this because WTC has a vested interest in three of the CTA races and its a way to capitolize on the market and make a solid investment for themselves.

CTA produces the Columbia Triathlon in May which usually has 1500-2000 racers and its also a 5150 qualifying race that always has a solid pro field. I got to meet several pros when I raced Columbia and when I have been down there to cheer on friends. Taking over this race make sense as WTC owns the 5150 series and they can continue to get exposure to that. Living in the area, Columbia is the gold standard of Olympic Races in the Mid-Atlantic. Great course, brutal run and awesome vibe and it always attracts a ton of people.

CTA Produces the Iron Girl triathlon which is also licensed from WTC

CTA Produces Eagleman- Enough said about that

By WTC purchasing the rights to these races, they can keep money and customers happy. All of the logistics, equipment, volunteers, plans, etc are already in place and havent needed to be changed in a while.

I do think that in 2015, WTC will trim the fat and cut all of the other races CTA put on. I believe they will only host 4 races in 2015 to include:
1.) The Columbia Triathlon- 5150 series
2.) Iron Girl- WTC owned series
3.) Eagleman- WTC Event
4.) Chesapeake Man- I think that in 2015 this will become a IM branded full, the first for the mid atlantic region.

I have mixed feelings. Clearly CTA was going down the tubes and the sale should preserve several great events. That said, I grieve for the loss of one of the few remaining independent full distance races. Only a few left now. But, I also appreciate the quality of the product WTC puts on and think if they keep Chesapeakeman as a IM race I will be more likely to attend.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.
