Subject: Stupid diet!!! Wetsuit sizing Q.
I've got a brand new, never even been tried on Orca S4 that is now too big ......

I just didn't trust myself to stick with my diet plan all the way ( it was the first real diet attempt of my life) so last fall I bought a Orca s4 size 9 on clearance. figuring that going from 245 to 200 at 6' 2" was more realistic than my goal of 185. Then I nailed the goal. I have been solid between 180-185 for the last month or so, and I just can't believe, nor want to try to gain 15 lb to fit into a wetsuit before June . According to Orca I should now be in a size 8.

In my place would you:

1. Sell the size 9 right now, never been worn (or peed in ) to recoup some cost, and buy a size 8?

2. Swim in a suit 1 size too large, H.I.m, sprint, and oly scheduled for this summer?

3. Buy another suit, and keep the larger one in case of another bout of fat guy triathletism?

I'm not rich, but I am fairly comfortable. However with all the expenses of starting into tri's I am starting to garner slightly higher budgetary scrutiny from the lovely lady in my life.

Well if it's never been tried on, how do you know it's too big? Try it on first and then decide how it feels. I was taking selfies the day mine arrived since I wanted to see how I looked in it :P It should feel pretty snug but still allow movement. Nothing should be hanging loose. Try it on and go from there. If it's not overly big, then I don't see an issue using it, if money's tight.

Never been tried on, see if they will exchange it for a different size.

What a wonderful problem to have--congratulations!

Exchange it or sell it :)

Looks like the consensus is to exchange or sell. I think I will try to exchange it. My first tri this year is notorious for cold water, and the last thing I want is a steady current of water flowing THROUGH my wetsuit, instead of around the suit

I don't have super high hopes, it has been several months since I bought it, but it is worth a shot.

I'd at least try it on, wetsuit sizing is notoriously variable.

You've got good advice here. I'd probably try to exchange it first.

But that being said orca's run tight. So it's possible it could fit. The outer skin is also super fragile and I put a fingernail tear in mine trying it on. So be super de-duper careful :-) pull from inside (as I eventually learned myself).

You should definitely try it on. I was trying on suits and everything was saying to stick with SM. I'm only 5'7" (more like 5'6.75") and I never would have thought to try on a SMT (small tall). But, apart from having to cut the ankles a little, the torso fit was perfect. We're not all made the same and the measurements are very generic.

If the suit hasn't been wet in a long time, or possible ever the fit may not seem right and you are more likely to tear the suit.

Emilio De Soto posted here a long time ago to soak the suit for 5' or so before putting on if it hasn't been wet in awhile.

Since weight is often a biggie with sizing, I personally would call customer service to discuss and see if an exchange can be made before doing anything.

I figure I might as well update the thread.

I tried it on, and it felt good and tight. I thought I was good to go. I hit the reservoir last week for a short swim (the water was COLD) and found I am not good to go. I've taken it out two more times and I am now sure it is too large. I can feel water running out of the suit when I stand up at the end of swims. I can also feel fresh water coming into the suit every time I switch breathing sides. Even at 6' 2" I am just too skinny for the Orca size 9

So my wonderful wife told me to order a new suit. I've got a Synergy Endorphin on the way. I am looking forward to trying it out immediately, and exchanging it even quicker if it doesn't fit

I'll keep this suit because let's face it, I lost 65 lbs, there's a good chance I might just find 10-15 of them again
