Pre-race routine:

try to remember what to do again after not having raced in 5 months.
Event warmup:

stay in the car and try not to freeze.
Run
  • 24m 25s
  • 4 kms
  • 06m 06s  min/km
Comments:

managed to make it about 1.25 miles before walking the first time, so that was nice.
What would you do differently?:

run more in general.
Transition 1
  • 01m 18s
Comments:

a little tricky getting the bags off the bike, but that was the only hiccup.
What would you do differently?:

not race in rain ...?
Bike
  • 42m 31s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.93 mile/hr
Comments:

for not having ridden a lot this year, it wasn't bad. for also being hailed on in the face, it wasn't horrible. toes froze by loop three.
What would you do differently?:

ride more.
Transition 2
  • 01m 17s
Comments:

fingers and toes were too frozen to function.
What would you do differently?:

race in warmer weather so my issues wouldn't exist?
Run
  • 26m 28s
  • 4 kms
  • 06m 37s  min/km
Comments:

took 3/4 mi to thaw out. from then on, lungs were the limiting factor.
What would you do differently?:

train more. not race in 20 degree temps.
Post race
Warm down:

PANCAKES. changed into dry clothes; esp. dry socks.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not training. being a lazy pile over the winter. having my comeback get stopped by shingles. the cold and hail and snow.

Event comments:

would have been a lot better had it not been freezing cold.

Many people have been asking my opinion of this popular show, so I feel obliged to scream out: It's terrible! It’s horrible! It's abusive! I also feel like throwing my shoe at the TV.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

I’m a 240lb man, and I run relatively long distances. How would you recommend training for marathon and IM distances as heavy as I am?
