Event comments:

This was my first race 13 years ago and I have done it every year. The race used to sell out early with 400 spots. Today there were less than 200. The race is fun and the post race is great. Its held at the Flora Bama, one of the most fun beach bars in the civilized world. They have good intentions, but they have really let the race slip. They changed the distance of the swim and alot of people show up expecting a 400 yard swim and get an 800. There isn't really any prerace announcements guiding people to the start and telling them things to be aware of. The timing was screwed up. It seems that less and less of the local folks are doing the race. Its a shame. The founder of the race and part owner of the bar is a great guy and has the best intentions, but the folks running the race need some guidance.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

All you have to do is say you’re a triathlete and you intimidate the whole world. No matter how much you bench press or what you lift or how many squats you can do.
