Subject: Which Shoes?
Hi, hope you can help me...

Quite simply:
I weigh 235lb (bodybuilder rather than overweight),
Am 6 foot tall,
Always run on my forefoot,
Run pretty neutral,
Run 5-10 miles a week,
And have a normal arch...

  • ..But I know nothing about running shoes.

  • From those details, do any of you know any particularly good shoes for that type of person?

I don't currently have any injuries, but have had plantar fasciatis and Achilles tendonitis years ago.
I'm guessing my feet and ankles are quite strong as I do a lot of judo (in bare feet on soft mats), but I don't know for sure.

Thinking of doing a marathon next year.

    Thanks

    James

Shoe fit is very personal. For example, I like my Sauconys as the heel arch is perfect for me; Mizunos are a few mm too far forwards, and Brooks a few mm too far back. My go-to is a Triumph; I also have a pair of Kinvaras and three or four other random shoes I run in. I have a pair of Hoka Evo Stinson Tarmacs I love for double-digit runs.

Start with a visit to a good running store. Shoe up in running gear, and grab, I don't know, six or eight pairs, and hit the treadmill. Have fun, talk to the shop folks, and see what works for you.
