Hey folks,
I'm moving to Vancouver in a week and I'm sure there will be a ton of training opportunities once I'm settled there.

Regarding OWS, when is the season starting in Vancouver? How soon can I expect to be able to swim from the beaches? Are you swimming in some lake too?

Thanks for all your tips

excited

Thank you

Thank for the swimming information, I'll check their website.

I will be living in yaletown because my work will be very close by and I want to be at walking distances. Oh well... 1 more week to go before arriving

There are numerous swim groups in and around Vancouver. Last summer there were swim groups at Jericho beach and at kitsilano beach and there were people out practicing numerous times throughout the week! Very inspiring to watch. I believe you can pay a drop in fee with the group at Kitsilano if you can't make their weekly sessions, and they have lifeguard boats out on the water if someone needs help. Great way to practice for Olympic and Sprint Triathlons.

I swam at Kits pool last summer, and it is simply awesome. There is pay parking at kits beach and it's not too expensive. If you buy a pass at the community center, you may get a better deal on rates. 2nd beach pool within Stanley Park also offers 50m lengths.

Happy training, and welcome to Vancouver!

Originally posted by DrLeahKits pool is an outdoor salt water pool right on the beach that is very popular as well - I can't find when they open on the website though.

Kits pool opens in 13 days on may 17th.

Also of note kits pool is the longest pool in Canada at 137.5 meters and there is always lengths swim available.  I definitely recommend checking it out.

idon't think anyone mentioned VOWSA.... google it. Supervised OWS twice a week at kits beach, very close to where you live! as for groups there are tons! I live close to you and am training for IMC, if you want someone to take you on local rides sometime soon let me know! I do long rides (4hours ~120km) every saturday and short rides 2-3 times a week in the area

oh haha ya! waiting is torture. I moved to Vancouver from Toronto a year ago so I know what it's like! Happy to show the ropes to a fellow east coaster.

Check out the western subaru race series, seriously awesome races

I love it - despite my 3 hour ride this morning under the rain but it was expected
Already swam at Kits beach, and the area is a giant playground

Just loved it, loved it, loved it.

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.
