So Woodstock is a month away. Any one going? I really want to but have not registered yet as I hate cold water. I understand that Pittock Lake can warm up quickly but only if we ever get some hot weather. I want to make a decision soon, next week at the lastest.

I'll be there in the try a tri. I'm not looking forward to how cold I'm going to be in that swim.

Hello -

I am also debating about registering - first timer for that venue

To make sure your head does not get too cold, please buy a neoprene hat for under your bathing cap - trust me it helps

I am also concerned about being cold on the bike after the swim if it is a cold / windy day

But lets stay positive - it will get warmer ..... in July

See yo on the 25th

I'll be there this year too. Was there last year and If I remember correctly it ended up being Wetsuit Mandatory because of the Low water temp. It was Borderline so I may be mistaken, but I remember it being an issue. Excited to get the Season Started and improve on last year!!

Oh, I have no doubt that it will be wetsuit mandatory the way this spring has been trending. I'm sure John will provide his thoughts.

Sure, the water will be cold, but it really won't be that big of a deal - at least not to the extent of needing a neoprene cap. Between your anxiety, adrelaine, and elevated heart rate once you get swimming, you'll barely notice the cold. Besides, you won't be in the water long enough for the cold to become a danger or anything like that - given that the longest swim is 750m.

This was my first tri ever back in 2011, and I always make a point of returning every year. Think you'll be cold on the bike - throw some homemade sleeves on your arms before hopping on, and you're good as gold.

I did the Woodstock Sprint in 2012 and the water was fairly chilly - not wetsuit mandatory but I believe it was close.

I agree with McCullcra that the cold won't be too bad once you get going, but I would recommend that you take at a short warm-up swim beforehand.

For me personally, when the cold water hits my face it literally takes my breath away and could induce panic if you're struggling to breath.

If you take a few minutes to get adjusted to the cold, then it won't be such a shock at the start of the race.

Good luck everyone.  Its a great venue.

I was volunteering in registration last year. The water temp was fine and the try-a-tri later in the day was not wetsuit mandatory, the problem was the difference between the water temp and the air temp. If the air temp is too cold, it is wetsuit mandatory (the same thing often happens at lakeside).

I'm local, was planning on racing, but haven't got much training in yet. (Have a baby at home and we have just recently listed our house for sale, so I'm pretty busy.)

I am signed up for Binbrook two weeks later. Don't have a wetsuit and no experience swimming in one. So I hope it warms up!

Glad to see there are some hardy souls out there. As some have already said the water temperature has sometimes been on the edge but you have to realize it is the combination of air and water temperature that ultimately decides on whether it is wetsuit mandatory. The history of the race will show there has been more of an issue with air temperature than water temp.

The water in Pittock lake is very shallow so a couple of weeks of warm weather will warm things up nicely. We will be getting the water temperature taken the week before the race so we might have a better sense by then. Although, in the end we can never be 100% sure what the conditions will be. I wish I had a weather crystal ball but in the end we watch the weather and hope. The one thing I will guarantee is our decisions will be about making sure athletes are safe.

Hello everyone - 6 sleeps before the big day for a new season

I hope the water temperature is rapidly going up...

For those using a wetsuit, please make sure you soak it well before its first use so that it is not dry causing expensive repairs or additional expenses early in the year

John - have you had a chance to check the weather temperature lately?

See you all Sunday

Have a good week

The facebook page said they would have daily water temperature updates starting tomorrow. The water warms up quickly because the lake is very shallow.

I would expect it will be a wetsuit optional swim.

The decision is based on a combination of water and air temperature. At this point, based on the Sunday weather forecast of 14+ degrees as a LOW, and a water temperature of 16 (1 hour ago) this will be a wetsuit optional swim. Just to remind those who were there last year. The water temp last year was 17 and it was cold morning.
