Hey kids!!

Where's everyone racing this year?

My schedule is in my signature line but thought I'd see what the Iowegians are up to.

Looks like you have a great schedule for the year! Good luck to you. I am iffy on a few early season races due to my personal life, but planning on Dam to Dam, Accel or Holiday Lake, Chisago Lake, MN Half Ironman, Des Moines Half Marathon (possibly) and IMFL this year. I qualified for the 5150 Nationals as well but not sure I will take the slot due to my IM training. However, if I feel pretty confident in a few months I may see if there are any slots left. I don't think it will fill up as quickly this time around.

Looks like a good schedule! Here's what I've got planned.

4/27 HyVee/Drake Half Marathon
5/31 Dam To Dam Half Marathon
6/15 Ironman 70.3 Boulder
6/22 Copper Creek Sprint
7/20 Ironman 70.3 Racine
9/7 Ironman Wisconsin
9/20 Cy-Man Tri Sprint (maybe)
10/19 Des Moines Marathon
10/25 Racine Half Marathon

I'd love to do HyVee Triathlon for the 3rd year in a row but it's too close to IMWI. I'll probably volunteer so I can still be a part of it. Good luck this season!

Very aggressive schedule!  Looks like we may cross paths at DM.

A friend of mine did the first two legs of Hy Vee the week before IMWI and said it was a good workout.  Didn't run so ended up DNF'ing but that didn't bother him.

Have a great year!!

What is the Norfolk Spring? I am looking for a June or EARLY July Olympic close to Des Moines. Only one I've found is Accel and that day won't work for me now. Know of any others?

Thanks!

Norfolk Spring should say Norfolk Sprint.  LOL.

Regarding Olympic distance races, I'm in the same boat as you are.  Trying to find one that will work that I may be able to do and perform well in and hopefully get a spot to AG Nationals.....

I was going to do the Liberty Olympic Race.  It's about 20 West of Minneapolis and is a great race.  The water was cold last year, but the day ended up being perfect.  I did the HIM last year and some of our Tri Club did the Olympic race and had a blast.  Trail run on gravel with some decent hills.

The bike was really fast too with some big hills.  Fun race.

I'm hoping now to do the Copper Creek Triathlon in Pleasant Hill.  It's my last chance to get to AG Nationals that I can tell from my home schedule,

There is the Omaha Triathlon but that is a little later in July.  I heard that race is very well run but the bike is big time hilly.

The bad thing is that there just isn't much for Olympic Distance Triathlons in this part of the world in the early months of the season.

Agree. I can't find anything. Have you done Accel? I think we are going to choose Holiday Lake only because it's close, short, and extremely CHALLENGING. It may be a sprint but when I get done I feel like I've done more. Hilliest run course I've ever been on in my entire life! Not kidding! We run lots of hills around here and, as you know, many of the races are challenging. Copper is FLAT and FAST if you haven't raced there before. Well organized, great swag, but sort of pricey for the distance. I am in KC that weekend for a softball tourney for my 11-year old. I ran the Omaha Marathon once and it was SO HILLY, so I can only imagine what a tri would be like if it's closer to the Iowa border. Happy racing season and thanks for the info!

OK this is a total newbie question bit what exactly are the at nationals? Where are they held and how do you qualify? Is there a website? Doing my first tri in August and just got into the sport.

Every year USAT puts on the "Age Group Nationals".  There is an Olympic Distance race in which you have to qualify for.  You can qualify out of any USAT sanctioned race by placing in the top 10% of the age group, even if the race is a Sprint distance, you can still qualify for the Olympic race.  They also have the Age Group Sprint National Championship that is held the day after the Olympic race.

Was looking in the Iowa forum to see if anybody was racing the Best Dam Tri this weekend and who do I find? When did you join this site, Mike?
