Got number 69! As the lady was handing the me the number I said "what an unfortunate number.

Got up about 4:30. Got coffee and a bagel. Putzed around watching sport center and then packed up. I biked over to the Marina and set up. Met Enrico from Endurance Nation.
Event warmup:

Biked over; ran for about 0.5M and then walked down to the docks to see the swim route.

Comments:

Overall, I felt very calm. I knew this would be ugly, ugly, ugly! And it did not disappoint. One the way in my arch on my right foot cramped up.
What would you do differently?:

More than one swim since October

What would you do differently?:

Bike
  • 50m 43s
  • 15.4 miles
  • 18.22 mile/hr
Comments:

Considering I have only biked 10 miles this year, the bike was a success. I picked off maybe 15 to 20 riders. I did not click my Garmin for maybe a quarter of a mile. Once we were out of DB, the winds really picked up. I had a cross wind on the out loop, then had a head wind. On the way back I had another cross wind. I was catching up to the four cyclist ahead of me and in front of them a dog started to chase them. He crossed over the highway and stated after me. I yelled "NO NO GO HOME" and then he stopped. His owner came out to reign him in. I did smile the entire time. Ok until the end. I was good for about 15 miles. However, I knew I pushed it hard and right as I as getting off the bike, my calf cramped up. I could hear my wife from the street!
What would you do differently?:

Train. I was hopping for 20 mile per hour--but with the wind I was very happy.
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

No problems
What would you do differently?:

I slowed down to talk to my bride.
Run
  • 27m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 44s  min/mile
Comments:

Considering the cramp, I was very happy with the results
What would you do differently?:

Not much other than train. I set out for 9 min miles and beat that.
Post race
Warm down:

Got water and kissed my bride. Hung around for the post TRI meal and generally shuffed around.

Event comments:

Great local race. Highly organized. I would recommend this event to everyone.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
