I'm doing my first tri of the season in KC this coming weekend. This forum hasn't had any action this spring, any one else from Arkansas doing tri's this year?

Sorry - I didn't have a chance to respond prior to race day...there were at least 7 other NWA athletes there...GPP Endurance Club (my coaching) had 3 racers, Triple Threat (my club) had 2 folks. I know there were 2 other tri folks representing NWA - and they each won a spot on the podium. Nice for Arkansas...

Great racing conditions...hope you had a great race...mine was not where I wanted it to be...but it absolutely reflects the amount of effort I've been able to put into training so far this spring. I think everyone I knew there raced the Oly distance. My next race will be Ozark Valley at Lake Weddington...Maybe Summer Roundup in Joplin.

How did your race go? What's up next for you?? Do you train with locals??

Just adding my $.02 from Marion, AR

I did the Memphis in May Sprint on 5-17.

Planning on hitting the Mighty Mite in July, and heading out to Heber in October (which is supposed to be my wife's first)

There's 2 others in town with me that I know of... probably more

Sorry I forgot to come back to check this thread.

I did decent for my first tri of the year. I wasn't as prepared for the swim as I should have been. I have been working on my swim a lot since. My next will be the Ozark Valley as well. Then I will be off to do my first 70.3 in July. I'm doing the Ironman 70.3 in Racine, WI! I'm really excited to see how I do in that race.

I'm not fast by any means and won't be on a podium anytime soon. I'm a middle of the packer for now in my age group. I just like to compete against the clock and reach some personal goals along the way.

I don't have any friends that do tri's so I've only trained by myself so far

I'm with you on that. Other than a Thurs night group ride that's trying to get started on our side of the river, I roll solo. Thankfully, I do have my friends to bounce ideas and concerns off of. However, they are WAY outta my league (for now)...

I'm a newbie in North Little Rock and plan on doing a sprint in Heber Springs in October. I figured I'd give myself some time seeing as I don't even own a road bike yet and just training on a spin bike LOL. Seems like there are quite a bit of tri's to do in Arkansas and wish I was more confident enough to do one this summer, but I need to work on my swim fitness and well I need a bike! I thought this would be a good goal to work in to my regular training program.

That's the one my wife is planning on. I'd play too, but she won't let me run 3 this year. I would suggest you get your hands on a bike and get in the water ASAP. Road riding is a completely different beast than a spin bike or exercycle, plus you need to get your fit dialed in. Also, getting used to swimming in open water is a very good idea, not to mention being able to swim the distance in the first place.

I definitely want to get up to Heber soon to try some open water swimming. I think I need to practice sighting, I've heard you'll end up all over the place if you don't sight very well!

I have been doing lots of open water swims on Beaver Lake recently. I try to look on every 3rd or 4th breath that I take on the left

I have been interested in tri's for a while but dont know anyone in the sport or where to start. So, I volunteered at the Memory Maker Tri this morning in Bella Vista. I had an awesome experience and they let me work around the transition area and I learned a ton. Hopefully by next year I will have a bike and had time to work on my swim so I can jump in. It was worth the drive up from Fayetteville for the experience. I will most likely volunteer at the Tri Fest for MS next weekend as well.

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

Until last year an Ironman was just a dream. Now it has become a goal. I needed to start, but where?
