OK, Jay. We're on for next June!

While I"m still putt-putting along with the running, its feeling better each time I head out. I'm about 1/2 way through my C210K plan (thanks, Carol!) and its working well. No hammy pain, the progression is totally manageable, and as I stated, I can tell its working. I'm also working on running form while I'm out there so I suspect that is helping as well. Still aiming for a HM in late Ocotober, early November. Won't be fast, but its a goal for the fall.

Hey triathletes, it's been a busy couple weeks for me so I haven't posted as much as I'd liked. Montana was great, I was able to fit a couple bikes up the Spanish Peaks (near Big Sky), as well as do some 'altitude' running, which felt great. I had some off-days for the wedding, etc, Yellowstone exploring, and traveling, but I think I'm in good shape for the HIM coming up. I may follow Joe's taper plan. Good luck with everyone's training/races! My Garmin's having some errors so I haven't been able to upload on GC.

Dennis, some nice wounds there. My bro just finished his first tri, an Xterra event, so it was technical mtb for the bike, and many came out bloody like that. One guy had to hold his torn short up! Stay healthy, though, and win that fight!

Steve, good info with the electrolytes/sodium! And that is tons of fluid on one dude. I rock 4 bottle cages (2 behind my seat) on long rides, and I guess using my Camelback would help but there's usually somewhere I can fill up most of my rides.

Jay, sorry you had to back out of the HIM but it can be tabled for another time. I wish your family the best.

I'd love to join you guys for the Patriot HIM (it's 7 hrs from my area) but i fear it'll be too close to my wedding to properly prepare.

Phil - Me and the family visited Montana a few years back and it was awesome. Never got to do any hiking but that is reason to go back. Race day coming up. Good Luck!

Dennis - You have prooven to be very resilient. Sorry for your troubles and Glad you can share this with us.

Steve - Thanks for the inputs. That fits pretty well with what I was thinking. The run is the achilles and there are plenty of reasons why. Still excited to be in a position to finish as I talked about racing a HIM for a couple years now.

Mike, Carol is in S.F. She was there for the earthquake but she and her husband are fine.

Nina, I think Steve is not in an area with internet for a few days but I don't think he'll say anything but welcome when he comes back.

Hello all!

Treatment on Wednesday went well. No issues, no reactions. Should be relatively easy going forward. Just something I will need to get used to. This will need to be done weekly (Ig injections). Great support team through the pharmaceutical company. Real nice people.

Thursday evening - 20 mile bike ride - cadence focused. Tried to keep a high cadence. (Upper 90's - 100's) Average cadence was 87 I believe, Went pretty well I even had an average speed over 15 mph.

Friday - Lunch time run. Quick, short, 2 miles. Really pushed it. I had the best / fastest run yet. 2 miles with a 10:47 pace. Never hit below 12:30 prior to this. - Feeling good!

This weekend will be hiking with the family and hopefully a long bike on Sunday or Monday. Still haven't been in the pool (shame on me).

Pam - Thanks! In a year from now will not even wonder about this. Will need to think back again and remember... this to shall pass!

Phil - thanks for the link to the eating healthy. I will keep trying with that.   Yes, the tri bug has helped me quite a bit. So has reading everyone else's postings.

Mike - nice job on running. What are you doing to work on your form? I am sure I can use help..

Nina - welcome! a lot of good people here. I am one of the newer ones.

Joe - Thanks. And again.. good luck do well! Looking forward to a great race report.

All, anyone going to lake Hayward for a tri on Sunday? I just heard about it. Had already planned the weekend so I didn't want to throw this in last minute.

Chat later...

Nina, Steve our mentor is travelling and without internet access, I think. But Welcome! Tell us about yourself.

Dennis, so glad that the injections went well. Also glad you have that great attitude.

Jay, thanks for letting us know about Carol!

I love my doctor. Several months ago, I began having a lot of stomach issues. Been trying to work it out myself and stopped the beans first. Then the peanuts, Then the high fiber veg. Then more meat, less meat, add yogurt for the good bacteria, remove all lactate, no artificial sweeteners, no processed foods, no lemon in my water, no gluten, etc. For several days, I ate nothing but rice, bananas, baked potatoes. But I had a physical the other day and I explained everything to my doctor and she found my problem. Diverticulitios (sp?) which was aggravated by seeds (I eat lots of hemp, chia seeds and was doing smoothies with berries in it). So she put me on antibiotics to clear up this outbreak and then explained how to handle in the future. I wanted to kiss my doctor when she explained it all.

Long run this morn. Slightly longer than I planned because I had to go out of my way for a water refill. But thankfully (for the first time in a while) I felt good and strong. I'm also more optimistic now that I'll be better prepped for my Nov mary. I still won't be where I would like to be but I'll be better than I was afraid I'll be.

I'll have to catch up with everyone tomorrow. Was a long day, 2 loops of the 2 1/3 loop IMLT bike course today (after being up late due the bachelor party at the tent next to me (didn't even offer me a beer at 1am). Long story short, if I talk about signing up for IMLT again, remind me to think before I act. Ugg, that bike course is just tough all there is to it. Not sure if I will make the bike cutoff, will be close. Then I drove home 4 hours.. So long day.

Dennis dang sorry to hear that. Any chance you will have a recovery of your immune system? My uncle had a couple kidney transplants and needed to be very careful with immune system inhibitor drugs to avoid rejection of the organ. In any case our prayers are with you.

Plenty of room Nina comemon in.

Ya the campground had 1 faucet for the whole campground and 2 pit potties, so that is a No on the internet access.

Do you have any races you are training for Nina?

Different experience for me today. Thought I came upon someone in cardiac arrest then as I got closer, I saw he was stretching in the middle of the asphalt driveway. I started laughing with relief when I realized I wouldn't have to do CPR.

Crazy hot here today with high humidity. Went for an OWS at the beach in 58 degree water which felt oh so nice. Put in just over 1500 yards before the salt water taste became too much. Off for a run later.

Hello group!

I just caught up with all the posts, you guys were on fire the last 3 weeks!

Mike_D: I have come to the same conclusion as you, I need to properly warmup before a run, otherwise I feel awful for the first 1-2 km. Also I see you have a HM coming this fall as well; do you follow a specific program, how is your run volume at this point?

Dr Troll: a 2.8 km swim... just WOW! this Olympic swim will be easy for you!

Steve: these August numbers are surreal!!! Well done.

Linda : your running totals are pretty impressive too, great work!

Nina: welcome!

As for me, I am enjoying my last day of vacations, me back to work and kids back to school tomorrow morning...
Training went well the last few weeks, and I had my last tri race of the season last Saturday. Race report will follow soon but I am excited to say that it was a personal best for me for a sprint (1:31:xx) and the whole event was a blast!

I am proud of this one because I am dealing with a nagging pain in my ankle. I am getting this looked at, hoping it goes away soon as I need to up the running volume for my HM in November.

Finally, the August numbers:

Swim: 4h23min / 11636 yards
Bike: 7h41min / 130 miles
Run: 5h36min / 31 miles

Hiking with the kids 1h39min / 3.5 miles 590 feet elevation gain

Solid race Isabella! To answer your rhetorical question..... you need to double your annual run mileage to increase your pace and then add in some speedwork. And have your legs be healthy 8).

Hello All!

Great (long) weekend...

Saturday hiking with the wife and grand kids. Great day out and a good walk up some rocky & hilly terrain.

Did get out on the bike Sunday, needed to cut it short to head down to my sister in-law's for a picnic. 40 miles @ 15 mph average. Pretty good, only stopped once to buy a bottle of water. Will look to add a couple more cages to carry bottles behind my seat.

Monday - Golf in the am, bowling in the evening, mow the lawn in the afternoon.. Lawn tractor so that doesn't really count.

No chance of the immune system coming back. Need to keep w/ weekly injections and create a synthetic one. Thanks for all the well wishes a nd prayers. Really does mean a lot.

Steve - Holy CR@P! Some real good numbers for August! Nice pics.. looks like you have your work cut out for you. YOU will do it!

Pink - Now that you have a diagnosis, you can do something about it. Great that you know CPR!

strykergt - great numbers.. looking good.

Isabella - nice race report. Great job by you and your club. Now get back to work Hope your ankle gets better for you.

August Totals:
Bike: 18h 08m 51s - 251.17 Mi
Run: 6h 28m 28s - 20.4 Mi
