Competitor Group, Inc.
56F / 13C
Precipitation
Total Time = 1h 44m 29s
Overall Rank = 556/6969
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 47/309
Pre-race routine:

body looseners, 5m jog to w/u, MM w/u
Event warmup:

some light jogging during rain ot keep warm
Run
  • 1h 44m 29s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

took gel at mile 3, 7, and 10.5
took water at each available aid station, gatorade at each of those
started race in wrong corral behind 1:45 pace group, overtook the pacer around mile 7, fell behind them around mile 11
felt really strong - another teastament to the Hanson plan, started to feel the fade and burn around mile 11, felt fantastic on the hills, training nailed it
What would you do differently?:

dig deeper for the last 2 miles to try and push a bit more
Post race
Warm down:

water, gatorade, choc milk, pretzels, stretches and lots of walking around

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the burn felt a bit stronger towards end of this 1/2 than the last full marathon, the predictable self-doubt was there, still held this off but need to continue to work towards digging past this for the last push
when pace group caught me again around mile 10-11, had that mental feeling like in the very first marathon, played with my head a bit, but was still doing good because I started :30 to :60 behind them in the first place, that was a mental game that I remember from the very first race, got in the way a bit
avg cadence 88 which is better than last race but still needs to come up some

Event comments:

gender rank 422 of 2481
started manual laps at mile 3 when realized autolap was a bit off - HRM recorded distance at 12:48 miles
would liked to have electrolyte option at each aid station instead of every other one
Started to feel excited around mile 7, thinking I might actually get a new PR, intentionally did not look at watch too much and tried to focus on form and cadence
new I was doing pretty good, but in a way it was nice not to have too much knowledge of where I was, but who knows if that might have helped push for that extra :30 to break my PR

I just finished the NYC marathon on Sunday and I think I'm going to venture into triathlons. I am doing an Olympic distance and I want to do a 70.3 next year too. Any advice?

I just ran the Boston Marathon under nine minute miles, can I run eight minute miles for my half Ironman training runs? Or should I go slower?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ‘09, with a HIM in Oct of ‘09

Steady is our walk. Ignoring the pain that is radiating from my feet, I continue to place one foot in front of the other. Again I wonder, “Why am I doing this?”

Having three seasons under my belt I thought I knew what I was doing. That all changed with a few new challenges and a bunch of new friends.

This program should be used for an athlete whose goal is to run a marathon in the 1:30-2:30 range and has a good running base in the past 8-12 weeks.

My training was taking off. I had never felt stronger. I was making bigger strides than I ever had. I was stronger and faster than I had imagined myself ever being.
