better navigation

  • 00m
Bike
  • 1h 08m 29s

Comments:

Spent the first five miles settling in and monitoring HR. Lost time to major rivals on downhills but made it up on the flat and uphills on the later portion of the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I need to lose more weigth and to increase riding mph average.

  • 00m

  • 50m 2s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

kept motoring along stopping at each aid station to drink and pour water on my destoto arm cooler sleeves.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Post race
Warm down:

walking and food/water ingestion.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

need to keep working on increasing my turnover rate and to keep going to long rims for endurance training needed for 70.3 runs.

Event comments:

Race has seen lower participant numbers in recent years. In the 1990's race served as a regional USTA with numbers of 400 participants. Nice local event that isn't very expensive. Interesting to learn my performance was my fastest ever despite having done this event since the mid 1980s.

I looked at the swim buoys and start thinking, "Man! How am I ever going to swim that? That looks like a very long distance from the bridge. I have never done it in one go." There's no turning back.

After doing duathlons for the last couple of years, I decided to go for a triathlon. Starting with an Olympic-distance race perhaps wasn't wise, but it was fun (of a sort).

Experts agree, doing a “mock,” triathlon on the course you’re racing can aid you in your training; performance and most of all quell some nervous energy.
