Subject: Looking for a place to swim

Hi,

I'm starting training again after a long time ~9 years. I'm looking for a location to start swiming around Manchester. I'm not looking for a masters group, just a pool I can do laps in and work on my stroke. I will most likely try an use Globe Hollow in Manchester during the summer, but I will need a indoor location when school starts. Any recommendations?

Thanks, Jack

Hi, Check with Manchester High, I know they have an indoor pool. They might have something for residents. You can also swim at La Fitness in South Windsor. The YMCA in Ellington has a pool although the water quality is not that great. There is also a pool at Star Hill in Tolland. Hope that helps.

Manchester has pool info on their parks and rec page. Cornerstone in west hartford is nice but expensive. They do offer a drop in rate for masters if you occasionally want a coached workout. Ive also heard good things about the jcc in west hartford.

Thanks, I'm thinking that I will go to Cornerstone for a bit of Masters coaching on occasion.

There is a master's program at the Y in Ellington too. Mornings in the pool have been a bit crowded lately though.
Crystal lake in Ellington has a morning OWS group usually at about 5:45 MWF starting from the boat launch on the west side of the lake. Not sure if they started up yet this year though.

Confirmed group for Crystal Lake in Ellington MWF mornings at the boat launch. We left at 5:50 and did the perimeter this morning (2.1 mi). The water temp was ok with a full suit.

An OWS is something that I will be looking for in the future (hopefully near future ), but it has been a few years since I have been swimming. Thanks I will definitely look at Crystal lake and see if can make a few later in the summer.

I have pedals with the cage and when I ride 2+ hours my legs feel much more tired then if I took out my husband's bike with clipless pedals. Do clipless pedals truly make the difference?

I started riding this spring with the Carnac shoes on Look pedals (with plenty of float). About five minutes into a ride I get sharp pain on the outer edge of my feet, just behind the pedal.
