Pre-race routine:

Drove down from Michigan. Took me an hour more than I expected. Made me very anxious. I have never done this race before and was a little nervous. Once I got there and got signed in and started to talk to people who had done it before I relaxed and got ready to race.
Event warmup:

Got in to my wetsuit (old one). Ripped one of the legs pretty significantly putting it on. I had soaked it and everything but my hand went right through it. I think maybe it is just getting old.
Swim
  • 05m 14s
  • 250 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

I believe this swim was significantly long. I didn't have a great swim but it wasn't bad either. I felt like I was pushing the pace on this and trying to be fast which I often do not do.
Transition 1
  • 01m 29s
Comments:

went just fine.
Bike
  • 12m 7s
  • 6 kms
  • 29.71 km/hr
Comments:

fast double out and back in the rain. It was a significant amount of uphill. My brakes were not working well and it was wet so I had to take it just a little bit easy on the descents
What would you do differently?:

get my brakes working
Transition 2
  • 00m 59s
Comments:

not sure why this took so long. Must be transition because I just looked and this was my fastest T1 of the weekend.
Run
  • 07m 3s
  • 1 miles
  • 07m 03s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pushing this in the low 6 pace (6:10 to 20) on the uphill. I knew it was just a mile and wanted to go hard but not so hard that I destroyed my legs for the weekend. Right about the turnaround I started to get some upper abdominal cramps which has only happened to me one other time when I was pushing a pace that my body couldn't handle. I backed off just a little bit and cruised home. I never saw a pace over about 6:40 on my Garmin so I am not sure where the 7:03 came from.
Post race
Warm down:

stretched. dried off. warm clothes on. back to the hotel asap to rest up for day two.

Event comments:

great start to the weekend

We have new 10 and 20 week training plans for the New Year! These mini sprint plans are very conservative and will get any person thinking of training for a triathlon ready to cross the finish-line.

Cotswold super sprint - UK. Lots of bodies colliding, I swam half over someone, got kicked by some bloody breaststroker, and as a mob we poured towards the first buoy.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?

If a heart patient can do these things, then so can those of you who haven't been split open like a fish and sewn back together.
