Who's doing this?

I'll be there watching my wife on the short course and keeping track of the kids. Let me know if you're racing and describe your kit so I know who to scream expletives (of encouragement) to.

In for the long distance.  As always, neon shoes and neon visor pre-race and on the run.  Feeling pretty darned good going into this one and ready to attack that longer-than-normal run.

Kit (might be the tank top version of this):

I'll be doing the long course as well.

I haven't settled on the kit yet, whether I wear a wetsuit or not will probably decide it. But I'll likely have my bright orange visor on and maybe my yellow/orange KCM top to make me more visible for my family members who will be there.

I'm in for the short course.  This will be my first race with an OWS, so here's to hoping you don't have to cheer anyone pulling me out of the water...

As far as kit goes, I'll be in newbie black.

I am just trying to figure out the maps.  The swim shows a start/finish that is backwards from the arrows.  The bike shows a different main road running north/south for the long/short courses (Croco vs. Paulen).  The run shows the short course running to the south like they did years ago, but not to the north like they have recently.  The run also shows the long course starting out by running out to Croco Road, and not following the walking path.

In for the short course to defend my M25-29 title, while also getting crushed by a 16 yo girl....

Feeling like crap, workouts have been sporadic and not expecting great things. BUT ready to suffer, so who knows...

I'll be in a Midwest Triathlon kit (green and black), first wave, hopefully leading off the bike and getting chased down by all the high school kids on the run.

And as far as waves, they have the long course going dead last.  It says "subject to change" but how can the list on the website have long course going last?  As a default it should always be the other way around.  Odd.

Has this race traditionally been wetsuit legal?  Anyone heard about water temps this year?

Their FB page addresses this, apparently it's because of cross traffic, with the short course racers needing to make a turn, while the long coursers go straight on the bike course. I don't see how this is a problem, but at least there is some reasoning behind the odd structure...

Last year was wetsuit legal, but previous years it hasn't. I'd be surprised if it was this year, as Clinton Lake BARELY was a few weeks ago for IMKS.

I'm on the fence between this and the Tour of KC Gran Fondo. Gran Fondo is only $40 and a SHORT drive. Topeka different story plus more race prep. What's long course swim distance?

Swim is 1000m, 19 mile bike, and 7.7 mile run.

So far its wetsuit legal if you go by this website: http://www.fishingnotes.com/lakeinfo.php?id=9444
It was last year but I didn't think the extra time gained in a 1000m swim justified the time lost trying to get the damn thing off.

Short course has always started first, that might because they are concerned about SC making their left turn onto 53rd while LC folks are going straight through. This avoids it as the SC racers have already passed that point when LC racers come by.

I did hear from someone (I forget who) that the swim course may be adjusted from years past to adjust for the unfair advantage people closer to the shore get by running along the shoreline vs people further out in the water.

Some interesting changes since Silverback took over. Hope everyone has a great race and you suffer well. This is the first time in 3 years that I'll miss it so I'm feeling a bit of an itch. I'll be swinging black flags that say "SUFFER!" so hopefully that gives everyone a jolt of energy.

Stick around.  We long-coursers may be at it until late afternoon with our delayed start.

Well you're all just going to have to push your pace. As I said the wife is doing short course and she is a nurse that works the night shift. She's going to be in a hurry to get home to sleep. I've never actually spectated an event like this, but I love obnoxious fans and so I plan to be spirited and it will help everyone do better (or make you go faster to get away from the annoying fan). I should see folks on the bike course and so please keep this video in mind: http://goo.gl/KZxhwA

I'm in for the short course, probably will be sporting a Desoto 1-piece, black with white stripes.

The bike and run maps look mostly correct, the run finish is likely a little farther around the transition (clockwise) than indicated, don't start that finishing sprint too early. The swim courses appear to be from before Ultramax picked up the races, if I recall correctly, the last couple years the swim courses have been CCW, short course was basically reverse of what is shown and long course out into the main body of the lake, the long course routing may have been due to low water levels, maybe not a problem this year?

The late start of the long course allows the heat and humidity to build a little more which helps make the long and unshaded run around the lake a little more memorable.

I'll be there. Long course for the first time -- last year I did the short course.

My kit will be similar to the profile photo (just have one tri jersey).

Looked at weather.com. Oh man, it's gonna be hot! I'm like DPRocket, I wish long course could be starting first for the heat....

And Humid! Might as well just have us bike/run through the lake.

This was my first short course last year so figured I would make it my first long course this year.

It is all relative.  Mid to low 80's by the end of the long course run isn't too bad . . . but the 80%+ humidity will be a bit stifling.  Winds are light, though.

Leave it to a triathlete to post numerous graphs of data on the weather forecast. I like it.

That chart, from that service, has saved my butt many times over the last few years.  Dead-on accurate to the hour when planning ahead for races, workouts, etc.  95% of the time I can schedule my workouts for the week on Sunday evening and not have to change plans due to the forecast being wrong.  NWS.com rocks!

I'll be there, heading to Topeka here shortly.

Seconding/Thirding the motion for the long course to be going first. Not looking forward to busting out a run in 85 degree heat with high humidity, but if they've got plenty of aid stations it'll be fine. We'll just have to see who can suffer the most.

I'm easy to spot of course. Kit says "Funk" on it.

I'm bringing my wetsuit, but highly doubt I'll put it on even if its wetsuit legal. No need to overheat if the water is 77 and I won't gain enough time to cover messing with it I imagine.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

After you have established the Ironman goal, the most important factor outside of the training is which race to choose? What is your best sort of course, hilly, rolling, flat?
