Subject: Mont Tremblant crank choice
I am travelling to Mont Tremblant for the 70.3 in September and need advice on cranks. I currently run a standard crank (53/39) which is fine for all the races I do here in Australia. I am wondering with the amount of climbing in this event whether I need a compact crank.

Has anyone raced the full or half here on a standard crank or should I be considering changing to a compact. Any advice greatly appreciated.

I did the full on a tri bike with std crank and 11-28 cassette. it was really ok with that.

the last 10k of the course is the most hilly, but the steep parts are very short. I didn't feel like the majority of the hills were difficult.

I've done the full 2x and although I envied the guys who were spinning like crazy up the short steeps with a compact, I did OK with a std and will likely stick with my same setup this August.  Good luck

By becoming more aware of your pedal stroke, you can choose to manipulate where and how you activate your leg muscles as your foot traces the circular trajectory at the cranks.
