Grimsby, Ontario
Canada
24F / -4C
Precipitation
Total Time = 55m 13s
Overall Rank = 139/329
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 16/21
Pre-race routine:

I had hydrated well during the day and took some nice time before the race to get my family into a good spot to see the finish.
Event warmup:

Did some dynamic moves and some jogging to loosen up.
Run
  • 55m 13s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 31s  min/km
Comments:

Sheesh. Brutal. 94% humidity. I suffered badly almost all of the way. I have really learned a lot from this experience, about my preparation and about execution.

First, cross training volumes do no substitute running volumes.
Second, pacing is key. Running in the hole of a fast start is foolish.
What would you do differently?:

Train, pace,prepare and execute better.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the car. Drank three pints of beer. Pizza and wings.

Event comments:

The race is getting an average rating mostly due to the spirit of the event. The course, execution, support and facilities are excellent. No doubting. But the buzz before start is virtually nil. The racers seem a very serious bunch and the finish line experience is poor. Wrong or no names called for finishers. Post run food is miles away. The announcer need some pep pills and to be better informed.

Plenty of calls for 'positive vibes' to send the clouds away but not a word about what we would do in case of lightening (which could be seen in the distance). Bloody YMCA played to get the crowd pumped up on the start line? Sheesh.

I love your cool down - Wings, and pizza, and beer! Well done and deserved.

Despite not crushing your sister in law - you learned something that will help you move closer to your goals next time. Kudos for that! We all have these types of races, but you well ahead of the curve in terms of making the most out of the situation.

Prost!

For as long as I can remember, I’ve had weight issues. I remember standing on the scale as a child weighing 60 pounds and feeling fat. My family dealt with stress by eating.
