Subject: Heart Rate Watch - Wear before start or after 1st transition?
Im debating if I should wear my Garmin 310XT before the start of the swim or to leave it in the transition area and put it on when I get on my bike?

ThoughtS?

I decided to wear mine from the start. One less thing to deal with in T1. I needed to put the wrist part over the arm sleeve of my full wetsuit. But, it was easy to remove as I ran from the swim to T1. By the time I was at T1 I'd removed it, pulled off the arms of my wetsuit and put it back on my wrist.

I have a 910xt and I always wear mine for the entire race. I won't leave it at T1...

I figure one of te main reasons i own the 310XT is that it times the run, bike, AND swim.

I wear mine over the wetsuit, slip if down in T1 and pull wetsuit over it& tighten the strap if necessary.

Yeah, the only reason I wouldn't wear it is if I had a FR210 or something (which I've had, and strapped on in T2).  Otherwise, it stays on.

Just practice getting the wetsuit off with it on, or do the watch off, top off, watch on thing while you're running to T1.

I wore my 310XT in the last race for the swim, same as above I took the watch off after exiting the swim and put it back on before I got to transition (0.25 mile from swim exit to transition).

the timing on the first segment was the only accurate thing :-)  according to the GPS I swam just in excess of 2 miles on the 1.2 mile course, I know my sighting sucks, but not that much :-)

when I review the map, I must have been awful to be swimming close to

Syracuse Swim

ETA: I really didn't swim that erratically! keeping the GPS signal obviously is a challenge, I'd heard recommendation to place the watch in the swim cap for accurate distance, but does anyone actually do that?  I certainly don't think I would.

I've worn my 910xt from the beginning, but all my tris so far have had pool swims so I didn't have to worry about the wetsuit.

The GPS tracking when the watch is on your wrist is spotty, at best. This is due to the watch going in and out of the water and not having an accurate signal while in the water.

I wear it the whole race. i like having my accurate gun time with me throughout the race. i tried to use the multisport feature once and screwed it up, but will try again. the first thing i do out of the water is click the 310 of the wristband and hold it while i run taking off my cap and goggles and taking my wetsuit half off. then depending on the race when or before i get to my bike i'll either click it onto my bike mount or back onto my wrist (i'll need it on my wrist for running so for sprints i think i've just kept it there). i don't rely on it for distance because of the gps issue, although on my last race the distance was good.

I wear mine the whole race. I have the quick release kit and the bike mount. I find that it doesnt add any time to my transitions to remove it and put it on the bike and then back on my wrist for the run. I make sure I practice that with my transitions.

when i ran with a 610 i put it on in T2 since it wasn't water proof. now i have a 620 and i swim with it.  time saved.

Unfortunately I don't have the kit from garmin that allows for easy on and off so I am considering putting the whole watch (band) included into my swim cap... not sure how that will feel but the GPS logging seems to work better w/the watch inside the back of part your head. Only issue is remembering that it is still on when I take the cap off and goto T2... hmmm decisions decisions!!!
