Subject: OWS groups around or general training groups?
Hi there, fellow Vermonters!

I am from Essex and am wondering if anyone knows of any open water swimming groups in Chittenden County or even triathlon training groups? I'm looking for something low key, motivational, instructional where we can learn from each other, inspire each other and have others to train with. I've heard of GMM (Green Mountain Multisport) but I've seen they cap out at 35 members, the fees are $100-$200, you have to have two written recommendations from current members, etc. but it seems to be the only game in town - can we change that? Is there anything for ows in particular?

Thanks,
Jenn

I'm a noob too, generally, but maybe if you call Vermont Sun that runs the Lake Dunmore tris? Or one of the groups that runs the tris out of Shelburne? Don't know of any formal tri or OWS groups, though I think there is a group that swims at Lake Dunmore super early in the morning (before the boats are out)- but that may be a little far for you?

Good thoughts! I'll do that! Lake Dunmore is a bit far but one of those groups may know something. I've heard there's a group that swims early in Indian Brook Reservoir here in Essex at around 5:30 but I don't know who they are or what days they're here. I've heard of Green Mountain Multisport but I'm new so probably not good enough yet to join them, I don't know. Any group will do - particularly as a woman was just hit by a boat in Lake Iroquois...safety in numbers.
I swam in Indian Brook yesterday and it was great but it would be nice to have a group to swim with.
Thanks, Nancy!

Thank you! I saw some folks there a week or two ago on a Friday at about 6:00!! I jumped in and got a lap in with them as they did their second loop.

The start of the race I had the jitters. I was watching the other age groups start as they seeded the swim with over 1000 participants.
