Subject: Age Group Worlds - Tri Suit?
This August, I'm going to head to Milwaukee and try to qualify for Worlds in Chicago in 2015.

I noticed that everyone at Worlds races in the Stars and Stripes USA Triathlon suit.

On USAT's site, they say that is the uniform that all the athletes have to wear.

However, you have to order it from USAT Trisports shop which costs $175.

Do they really make you buy the suit and if you didn't, would they not allow you to race?

Seems quite expensive and that on-top of the race registration fee, the costs add up if you'd like to race at worlds.

Not sure if they force you to buy but...

ITU rules for suits are strict... Name, Country Code and ITU symbol are not optional.

No Bare torso allowed so 2 pieces are hard to maintain that.

Not much any federation can do if you show up wearing a different suit as long as its race legal. If its not you must wear a generic ITU suit.

If you qualify and want to race at AG worlds the suit will be the least of your expenses.  I can't remember because I paid it a while ago, but I think the race entry fee was 350.00, on top of the 50.00 fee to hold your spot.....so 400.00. Hotels in Chicago aren't cheap, but at least next year you won't have to include airfare in the cost of your race.  You'll likely need a sub 2:10 in your AG to be close to qualifying this year....definitely doable for you if you clean your run up some. Even if you don't go to worlds the AG Nationals race is a great time in a great venue.....you'll have a ball.

Yeah I have a front zip suit so I guess I might as well just get the USA ITU one if I do really want to go to Worlds.

That's the plan, Left Brain. I'm going to put a lot of time into the run this upcoming month.

Although after hearing that $400 price tag I'm not too sure I will race even if I do qualify.

That plus a $120-$150 hotel room would put it at over 500 for one race. I could do 4 races for that price.

But, no point in thinking about that before even qualifying.

I'll just head up to Milwaukee and have a good time. I don't travel much so it'll be fun.

I am paying about $600 for ITU Edmonton for kit and fees. No hotel or flight costs though.

First go to Nats, enjoy the race, do well & have a good time. After the race is over you have time to decide if you want to take your spot to Worlds.

It is not cheap to go to Worlds, however w/ the Grand Final in Chicago next year, if you qualify definitely think about taking your spot. We went to London last year, took the kids as well & I can say it was a great experience for everyone. it is a slightly different perspective, but outside of tri, I never would have considered a trip to London. Since I qualified, we all went & the kids still talk about things they have learned, seen & experienced in London. They got to experience things as kids that it took until I was an old man to experience.

Little off topic but you have to qualify for nationals right?

You have to qualify for the Olympic.  The Sprint is open registration I believe.

LOL - deal!  Hey, were going to have a couple days to hang out.....PM me with some ideas for things to do/see while we are there if you don't mind....I'll have the whole crew.  We're not picky, just like to check out some local flavor when we do these trips.
