Was swimming in Lake Gaston this am and passed a beautiful yellow lab on a dock. About a minute later I felt scratching on my side. Apparently the dog thought I was wounded waterfowl! I shooed him back to shore so he wouldn't keep following. No harm no "fowl" (audible groans). Interesting and memorable encounter. Had to explain scratches on back to wife.

So you figured if you posted it here it would help her believe you?

That's a great swim story!

Did he think you were a tasty treat or was he trying to rescue you?

Either way, how funny!

Good story! My first lab (black) was always trying to "rescue" us when we were swimming, resulting in lots of scratches. Had to be careful when the kids were small as she could do some damage. One day at the cabin I took the paddle boat out and was half-way across the 180 acre lake we are on when I happened to glance back and saw her swimming after me, like 10 yards behind. I managed to drag her into the boat where she was happy to sit in the passenger seat on the way back to the cabin.

My current lab (yellow) just likes to lazily swim circles around us or "fish" in the shallows.

Now you need a story about getting tangled up in sea-weed while cycling to complete the set.

So you passed the dog and then it caught up to you?  Probably had a really good kick.

This thread made me remember this from awhile back...

Don't slack on the swimming, folks... unless you want to get beaten by a dog :D

lol
We do most of our swimming in a lake and there have been a number of times when a hawk has been circling over my wife while she's swimming. She hasn't got any scratches yet though.

My husband and I got passed by a few dogs on our last 10K. We decided to call it "getting Fidoed." =)

I swim regularly with my Mastiffs, I consider it good practice for the contact that you get in mass swim starts. They leave some major bruises though
