Steelman, at Nockamixon State Park, is coming up pretty soon. Anyone else signed up?

Anyone have any experience with this race? What's the bike course like?

I signed up a few days ago, the Sprint- Clydes division!

Someone has the course mapped out on Mapmyride. That will provide elevation changes. To me, it's a hilly course. Others may not consider it that way, but I don't see a lot of flat road on the bike course.

The run is on the trail along the lake.

Good luck and have fun!

I'm not signed up this year but I did the race last year. Excellent race, very well run and organized. Bike course to me was hilly. There was very few flat spots, you were either going up hill or down hill for the majority of it. The steepest hill is when you first get on your bike. You leave T1 and go about 100 yards and then make a left onto the hill. Its pretty steep and lasts maybe 200 yards if i remember correctly. I saw people walking their bikes up it, but I didn't think it was insanely steep. I actually dropped my chain trying to get into my lowest gear and had to stop right in the middle of the hill, fix the chain, and was still able to jump back on and get my momentum to climb it. So it can't be that bad. The run is pretty flat, so nothing worth mentioning there. Have fun and good luck

I've done it the last two years and have to miss this year due to other commitments. This is a great race. Very well run.
I guess its all what you're used to riding. The bike course could be described as "rolling hills" but I would call it pretty flat. Certainly would expect to spend most of the course in aero. Great post race spread. I'd get there early to ensure you get parking in the lower lot and not have to walk down to transition.

Its funny how people see courses differently. I would call this course anything but flat. I seriously don't remember a flat portion at all. Most of it was long rolling hills. It was definitely more of a challenge for me seeing how I train mostly on the flats.

I couldn't agree more with the parking situation. I showed up right when it opened and got a spot in the front row. My buddy showed up 90 mins later and had to parking in the top parking lot and walk all of his stuff down to transition. Not fun. It also gives you a nice place to chill out while waiting for your wave. Have fun

I'm in, this will be my 8th time for Steelman. Best run tri I have ever down, including the WTC events I've done.

As for the hills, yes it is hilly some of them are about 7%-8% grade the hill coming out of T1 might hit 10% briefly.

For a Triathlon it is a hilly coarse and you will see all kinds of different numbers on the internet if you look up the elevation gain, but I think its about 1300-1700ft of climbing for the for the Olympic.

Due to some running issues after Eagleman this year I dropped out of the Olympic last week and will be doing the Olympic aquabike instead. Although I believe I'm good I have not run more than 4 miles in the last 2 months so I didn't want to do anything stupid and get injured.

And how was everyone's race?

I came in at 1:35 (did the sprint), and I felt good throughout. My swim was good (very nice lake) and the bike, though a bit boring, was a nice ride. But...did everyone else the run was short? My GPS watched clocked the run at 2.99. Did it feel short for anyone else?

I had a blast! I placed 5th in the Sprint>Clydes, my time was 1:33.03.

As for the run, my Garmin showed 3.02 if I recall. I was struggling on the run, so it being a little short was a welcoming site for me

I left Ardmore early and arrived arond 4:45 and was able to park in the marina.

Love this race. 5th time doing it, 5 years in a row. I'll be back for a 6th for sure.

And as my last go in the M30-34 AG before I move up next year, I got to take home a 1st place AG medal in the Oly (even if it was due to a roll-down slot with the #1 guy actually being #2 overall).

I'm curious about the 'don't increase your run by more than 10% per week' rule. Is there a minimum mileage under which this doesn't apply?

I couldn’t help but feel that the race had beaten me. Perhaps duathlons were more for me? No, I was more determined than ever to succeed. I was determined to get on top of my swimming.

How should I go about training for the marathon while also building base in the other two events? Doing this seems like it's causing me to break the 10% rule in running.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

Yes, the Dual is a little heavier than Cervèlo’s high end counterparts. But…the price is within reach of the masses and it still incorporates all of the design features that make a Cervèlo special.
