Get your mind outta the gutter this is a real question!

I tend to salivate a good amount when running - when I get winded I mouth breath, probably contributing to the problem.
Prefer to just turn the cheek and spit - but in a race it can get crowded.

My issue is if I swallow it feels like I have lost a breath and my hr feels like it jumps.
Don't have a hr monitor so cannot confirm - anyone else have this issue? Any tips?

Spit...every time. If it is crowded, spit straight ahead. Its better to land on you then someone else. Otherwise, spit in your hand and wipe it off on your shorts. The most crowded runs I have ever done (Boston and Bloomsday), there was always enough space after the first mile.

At an indoor tri I unzipped my shirt a bit and spat inside it so I wouldn't spit on the floor. Are there any gross things triathletes wont do?
