One could only hope.  But what's a better deal, this, or something cheaper like a PowerTap?

What power meters do you all use if you have one?

I don't use one and really don't understand how they are used!

I just moved up to HRM! One step at a time! The nice thing, though, is that I do get power info when I go to the cycling studio. Like this morning, I was watching cadence, heart rate and watts.

This can be as easy or as complicated as you want it to be.

Yesterday, I had two hours bike+run. Today, I'm making Funfetti cupcakes topped with sugar eyeballs and sprinkles. She has let me get on the trainer while they cool.

Former Manatee Kristen (enders_shadow) is racing Ironman Louisville today! She's #673 if you want to track her.

Any updates from Kristen?  How's she doing?

She did not finish due to medical issues - dropped out at mile 20 of the bike and went to the hospital.  She is currently in an air cast and on crutches making her way back to Richmond to get an official diagnosis.  Looks like she is going to try IMMD next year.

Ouch!  I figured that it was something pretty significant.  She's definitely in my thoughts!

I did it.  I was hot and grumpy, but at least I got out of the house for a little bit.  I should have turned off the run/walk intervals on my Garmin.  The first walk interval came up and I could have kept going, but once I heard that buzzer, my legs just stopped.  Have to fix that for today.

Go you!

What's even worse is that a CROCODILE attacked 2 swimmers in Miami!!  Florida crocs are very rare and this was the first ever attack, but shesh, it's just something else to worry about.  They think he was about 11ft long! Of course, the idiots went swimming in a canal known as a croc habitat at about 2:30am, so I can't feel too badly for them

So pretty much, the Gulf Coast is safe but stay out of the Atlantic if you are in Florida?

Hmm.  2:30am swimming in croc infested canal.  Sober?  Maybe not, huh?

Good for you! There are days where I still take that "you're going faster than the person on the couch" quote to heart. I can't get too down on it, because something is always better than nothing. Rah! Rah! Tuesday night :D

Nope.  The gulf coast has the double whammy of sharks and alligators.     Recently a 15 feet 2000 lb alligator was caught in a marsh along the coast.

Sorry I've been a bit MIA lately been busy at work and home so haven't had time to get much of my manatee fix. I have also really struggled with my hay fever and sleep for the last 3 weeks which has messed with my training because I'm feeling so tired I just can't be bothered.

I find it so frustrating to I am so inconsistent with training. 25 years ago I could go to bed at midnight and get up at 5am swim 3-4k a day then go to school, go to basketball training, or swimming again, then ride home and study and it was all so easy. Now it's a totally different story.

Anyway enough of my pity party, next week I am away all week for work so there won't be much training happening, unless where we are staying has a gym (must check that out) but once I get back then the plan is back into it. Oh and by then it will be spring so the sun might be up before 6:30am and it might rain only every second day.

At least I made it out of Mass Bay just in time - a 14' GWS was spotted this week right where I've been OWSing my whole life (and as recently as last month)!  Too many seals lately - they've killed (literally) the Striper and Blue fishing and attracted the GWS's from down Cape into the bay.

All I saw at Barton Springs this morning was a big azzed turtle and some good sized (but fat and happy) feesh - oh, and some hippies...    No sharks or jellies!!

Matt

ETA - or CROCS!!!  Holy carp...

I STILL haven't made it to Barton Springs for some early morning swimming... just how chilly is it?  Will I need a wetsuit?

I don't wear one, just jammers, but I'm built like (and as furry as) a seal.  Wish I swam like one…  It's 69 or so consistently - maybe 70 on a warmer one.  Lots of folks in wetsuits, but majority are just in jammers/speedo suits.  I love the water there - cool but not cold, clear (if you're there early), fresh.

Manatee swim!  PM me if you have a morning when you can go.  I can get there early or at a reasonable time (drop oldest off at school early - 0645 - for band, and it's only 10' from there).

It's sooooo nice - DOOOOOO EEEEEET!

Matt

I am a few pages behind, 10 ish. But wanted to pop in say HI and let you know how my race went today. The "Never Quit 5k" actually 3.5 went well. Finished in 26:34 average of 7:36 PPM. This is my fastest run so far over here. I am quiet pleased. RR will follow, along with updating my training log.

Roughly 2 weeks left in Afghanistan!

Morning all!

So my mom is sending me random articles on the Internet because she thinks I'm going to drop dead training for IMMT.

It's going be a very long year.

Oh, I know.  I don't even tell them what my workouts are.   Kevin was out of town so they were "on call" for me.  I asked them about it and then sent them a cue sheet.

Phone conversation:

Mom: "What are you doing this weekend?"

Me: "I'm riding and swimming on Saturday and then I have a ride and a run on Sunday."

I then emailed the cue sheet for a 106 mile ride.  My mom was like, "That's a pretty long ride."

I called them at 4:30 on Saturday when I was done with everything because my mom had wanted to go for coffee.  She was like, it's too late for coffee.  hahaha.

part of that article does have merit - it talks about training at all out effort all the time - well DUH that's just stupid.

mom doesn't understand the difference.

Thanks for commiserating

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
