For the first time in the last year or I will be able to do one of the events I have wanted to do.     I think I am finally over the last linger effects of chemo.    My lower GI has been behaving lately.    Mornings had been tough because I never knew when  that particular system would come on line.   Some times it wouldn't until  9:00 or 10:00ish.  So the  7:00 and 8:00 am start times were hard for me to make.     For the past week or so it has behaved nominally.    That is a major achievement.

Tomorrow morning I will get up at 5:00 to drive over to the east side of Huntsville and attempt the century ride there.  103 miles, t'is, with a 7 hour time limit in order to make it back to the start in time  for a gourmet pasta dinner.  I don't know if I am quite as well trained as I would like.   I have only done a couple of 50 milers over the summer and for the past month have done most of my training on the bike trainer.    I want to try and keep my pace above 15 mph so a 7 hour ride is my goal.

So, put me in coach, I want back in the rotation.

Sincerely yours,

The Phoenix

Very tough day for all the Ironman Lake Tahoe competitors. I can only imagine how that feels. People were warming up in the water and some were walking in the water. Organizers waited to the last minute and cancelled the event 10 minutes before the canon.

Dead tired.    The climbs got to me.    I reviewed my data and  there was one climb that had a 20% grade for the upper part.    Methinks I need to figure out how to climb on the trainer.

I got a big reminder that sighting is essential.  I missed the 2nd buoy in the swim and ended up DQing.  Didn't get the confirmation until I asked the RD about it after I finished.

Otherwise, the race was great.  Did well on the bike and super on the run.  The weather was fabulous, the race was well-organized, and it was really fun to be racing with TJ.  I'm feeling pretty down-hearted and trying to focus on how well I did on the bike and the run.  At least there's a football game on this afternoon so I can grump at somebody else instead of DH (my awesome wonderful support sherpa) and focus on something other than beating myself up for making such a dumb mistake.  Don't feel like doing a RR right now.  Maybe tomorrow.

You were swimming so fast, you blew right by it! Sorry. That is a bummer, but you did get other times for data/race comparison? Silver linings.

Tough, but seems like it's considered the right call from what I've seen. Looks like fog all over, but that's how much smoke there is.

I typically put left foot on left pedal, swing right leg over saddle, right foot on right pedal. I suppose it works just fine from the right side

Very cool that you were able to get out there and do this ride, even though you're dead tired now. Goal accomplished!

I haven't yet, but I will.  They aren't posted and I couldn't bring myself to look at the results posted on-site.  From my watch, I did the run (5k) at around 30:15.  That's pretty close to my stand-alone 5k PR so I'm happy with that.  I also enjoyed playing leapfrog with a 14 y.o. boy most of the way through the bike and run.  We kept egging each other on.  I told him he'd better beat me.  He did but not by much.

ETA: Got my numbers.  Other than the stupid swim, the numbers are much better than last time.  Then again, course was also lot flatter than last time.  Still, I made it to the start, made it to the finish, didn't throw up, and kept smiling and encouraging other people all the way through.  Not a total fail.

I now someone who was supposed to race this one.  She was upset about it--but as it would have been her third IM this year she was okay with the decision.  The photos she posted on FB were so hazy from the smoke.  Absolutely the right call by the RD.  Not safe for any of the athletes, volunteers or spectators.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
