Safely back in TN. Enjoying some time with the family and getting myself back to full training for B2B. Now have clean water and a bike that moves.

Now to try and catch up on all the Manatee Mayhem.

I got a big reminder that sighting is essential.  I missed the 2nd buoy in the swim and ended up DQing.  Didn't get the confirmation until I asked the RD about it after I finished.

Otherwise, the race was great.  Did well on the bike and super on the run.  The weather was fabulous, the race was well-organized, and it was really fun to be racing with TJ.  I'm feeling pretty down-hearted and trying to focus on how well I did on the bike and the run.  At least there's a football game on this afternoon so I can grump at somebody else instead of DH (my awesome wonderful support sherpa) and focus on something other than beating myself up for making such a dumb mistake.  Don't feel like doing a RR right now.  Maybe tomorrow.

You were swimming so fast, you blew right by it! Sorry. That is a bummer, but you did get other times for data/race comparison? Silver linings.

I haven't yet, but I will.  They aren't posted and I couldn't bring myself to look at the results posted on-site.  From my watch, I did the run (5k) at around 30:15.  That's pretty close to my stand-alone 5k PR so I'm happy with that.  I also enjoyed playing leapfrog with a 14 y.o. boy most of the way through the bike and run.  We kept egging each other on.  I told him he'd better beat me.  He did but not by much.

ETA: Got my numbers.  Other than the stupid swim, the numbers are much better than last time.  Then again, course was also lot flatter than last time.  Still, I made it to the start, made it to the finish, didn't throw up, and kept smiling and encouraging other people all the way through.  Not a total fail.

Great day, great effort, AWESOME ATHLETE, AWESOME ATTITUDE = super success!

So way more than "not a total fail"

YAY!!!  Lots to celebrate!  Jonathan's safe return, MadMath's return to SBR, Manatee Meetup and fun!  Congrats to all racing and riding manatees!

Plus there are subtle reminders that I need to finish my AC Tri RR, not directly but reminders just the same.  I get too wordy sometimes, but I like being wordy, but it makes the task seem daunting.  I know, FWP.

My legs were toast yesterday.   This morning it was back in the saddle again.   Just 30 minutes or so, but with a 10 minute set of cranking up the resistance,  getting up and out of the saddle to pump and burn the quads.

Merci beaucoup,  ma tres belle.

J and I did our weekend ride on Saturday morning. Humidity up, wind down. I did a 44mi loop with him. Saw a big coyote wandering the road on the climb section and lots of squished rattlers of various sizes. One poor guy was coiled in the road trying to warm up when he got mushed. How could I tell? He was still all wound up...but flat    Back at the house we refilled bottles, and then I rode to the overpass with him before turning around. My knees and neck were yelling at me, so I cut my ride to 64mi instead of 88. J had a great ride and felt really good about his nutrition, which has been his main worry.

welcome home

Mary total bummer about the swim but we LIVE and we LEARN! Great pics though!! LOVE THE SMILES!

Add me to the list of people who are bummed for the Tahoe peeps. For the most part it seems like everyone is understanding but there's a new article on ST telling people to "get over it" so someone must be complaining that I'm not seeing. Oh well - the right decision indeed.

I haven't heard what WTC is doing for those people though - did I miss it? refunds? Registration towards another race? Nothing?

Happy Monday Manatees.  I'm home from a world wind long weekend.  Had a great time in TN and NC with racing and hiking and perhaps a bit of drinking.  Congrats to all the racers!

J read me more details on Tahoe from an IMAZ forum. Besides air quality issues, the fire was only 10-20% contained, and the officials and emergency personnel were extremely concerned about evacs of 3000+ people spread out along the course. Plus, hospital capacities already being pushed would mean air lifting to Reno.

With last year's issues and now this, will be interesting if Tahoe continues as a venue.

Hello all, I hope this week has started off well for everyone.

Michael - Good to see you getting out there on the bike, I hope you are feeling better.

Jonathan - Good to see you on US soil. I hope you are getting to enjoy some home time.

Erin - Good job on a long ride. Things look like they are progressing for J, which is a big plus.

Yanti - It is sure great to see you in here. Awesome job on the swim!!!!

Janyne - I see you have been after it on the trainer. Great job on not letting anything stop you.

Ann-Marie - Great race this weekend!

TJ - I'd have to say your whole weekend looks pretty awesome. Great job on the double race weekend. And on the anniversary celebration.

Darren - Don't work too hard.

Stacey - How goes your training plan?

Jen - I hope all is well and that you have been keeping after your run plan.

Keep on keeping after it my friends.

I'm all done with my pity party and focusing on all the really awesome parts of Sunday's race and my season as a whole.  Thanks for all the support, everybody, as well as a few gentle kicks in the pants to learn from my mistake and move on.  You all are the best.  RR is up now.  http://beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=524052&posts=1&page=1

Hi, piglet puppee manatees! Just a drive by, in the middle of that manic schedule I posted ...

The lake 10K was INSANEly awesome. Just the drive from the major airport there is 7hrs on twisty sheer-drop mountain roads ... with Indonesian drivers nothing rattles Kingsley (he married me, recall? and he's travelled all over) but he was in white-knuckled terror the whole way there and back. I will say it was hairy enough to probably make that World's Worst Roads show.

We were given the 5-star treatment the whole way, everything paid for, local foods , culture and delicacies, anything we could want. I almost felt a bit ashamed! I need to get my shyte together and start getting specific sponsorship for big events like Ironman ... I can, it just takes 1.5 years planning ahead of time and hell, I don't usually know what the next 1.5hr will bring.

Lake was breathtaking. Literally. As in 23.5C (74F) breathtaking and at altitude. I was coming into it just off a sinus infection and major mouth restoration, so I was pretty miserable, and felt like I HAD to do it because we were being sponsored to do this event. I changed my attitude to I GET to do this incredible event in this incredible location with incredible people and it made all the difference. That and a crapton of NSAIDs occasionally with a dollop of codeine

Kingsley and I had our azzes handed to us. The future of Indonesian swimming is very, very bright. He came in 14th in a deep men's field and I came in 10th in a women's which had ... 10 places . Not a DFL, though ... one of the men got pulled because he lagged too far behind (FINA rules). So actually, that I hung on at all, fast enough to be allowed to finish, was a major triumph.

Fastest male was 2:02, that's a 1:13/100m ave! Fastest female was 2:08, that's a 1:17/100m ave! Those are world class times for those conditions.

Hardest swim Kingsley's done and he's done a few dozen 10Ks in all conditions and quite a few 20Ks. So it was brutal for me. Very prestigious race, though; prize money went 15 deep for men and 10 for women so we both came home with cash ... and for Indonesia, a LOT of cash. I can pay my rent for two months (or pay for one tooth, heh).

Thanks so much for all the love and support. Life continues to be wondrous, and I continue to try to treat it wondrously.

It's amazing what a change of attitude can do, isn't it?  And drugs...always helpful!  As always, you're such an inspiration and being considered part of your support crew is an honor.  Glad you had fun!  (((Hugs)))

I am trying to catch up on, well everything but a quick rundown:

1. I ran well at the XC meet and was able to score for our team. We ended up in 3rd against a pretty solid collegiate field so it was a great start to the season. Maybe a RR some day....

2. The summit of Mount Adams was really hard. There was not as much snow coverage as usual so navigating through loose scree at the top was really hard, mentally and physically. I was the only one it our group able to summit. A solo ascent was not  what I was hoping for but being at the top, alllll alone was pretty epic.

Just did.  Thanks.  It's nice to know that even experienced athletes make dumb mistakes, plus he's a hilarious read. "30 pound neoprene octopus" - exactly!!

I know I made the right decision to DQ myself, have forgiven myself, and now feel pretty darned good about my race and my season.  Got a laugh last night when I texted my friend to tell her that I'd DQed.  She said, "Not for doping, I hope."  Not DQed for doping unless you consider a chocolate chip bagel a PED. I saved the chocolate bar with coffee and cardamom for later - that would have definitely put me over the line.

Find a mentor. Make a list of at least three people that you could approach for help, list your specific needs and then be courageous enough to begin asking.
