Pre-race routine:

Since this race was local, we were able to sleep in our own beds which is a bonus.
Woke up, loaded the car and ate a bagel on the way to the race site.
Arrived and set up the transition area, got body marked and hit the restroom.
Event warmup:

No real warm up...talked to Brad and Paul (grems8544) before the race.
Swim
  • 06m 42s
  • 366 meters
  • 01m 50s / 100 meters
Comments:

My arms were burning the first few laps. After about 100 meters, I warmed up a little and got into a groove. At the end of each lap, you had to touch the wall, duck under the lane line and then push off in your new lane...kind of a pain, but then again, this isn't an OWS.
What would you do differently?:

Swim a few more times before the race...I only swam once since LP.
Transition 1
  • 01m 38s
Comments:

T1 time is from my watch since the results page as the T1 and T2 times included in the bike.
Heard Brad behind me as I ran towards the transition area. Had no issues getting on the bike shoes. Decided to 1) not wear socks and 2) just go with the tri shorts and a tri sports bra to be faster. Grabbed my bike and yelled to Brad as I ran by him that my T1 time was faster than his. :)
At the mount line, I let him pass me and yelled good luck.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...great T1.
Bike
  • 29m 23s
  • 8 miles
  • 16.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Looking back, I feel I could have pushed it a little more on the bike.
Overall, pleased with the time and pace.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Transition 2
  • 00m 42s
Comments:

Only had to take off helmet, switch shoes and turn race number/belt around.
This no socks thing is great!
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...super T2!
Run
  • 19m 15s
  • 1.8 miles
  • 10m 41s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs felt a little heavy at the start, but once I got going, they were OK. Probably could have pushed it a little harder, but then again, I'm saying this 2 days after the race.
Had a strong finish though. Regardless of the size of the race, I still get chills and that adrenaline rush as I near the finish line...I hope that never goes away!
What would you do differently?:

As always, more run training.
This marathon and a half we signed up for (what the hell were we thinking) should help solve that problem.
Post race
Warm down:

Found Brad for a hug and kiss, grabbed some water, found some shade and looked for Paul (turns out we missed his finish).
Stuck around for the kids du to watch Paul's older son take first place after two years in a row of 2nd place finishes...the kids were fun to watch and some of the races were down to the wire!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Um, probably this thing called an Ironman 3 weeks ago and the fact I haven't done much since.

Event comments:

For a local, small race it is great! As Brad said, it's hard to judge it based on our ability. This is the first race we did two years ago and was just as fun this time!
Overall, a great local race!

Very nice race kristin.

I was laughing at the "marathon and half" comment too. Better you than me

Great job to both of you.

I talked to Ina at Bonzai and told her I'd do it every month for practice...  It was fun, to be sure, and having it be in our back yards is probably the best!

Thanks for cheering both the boyz too -- Greg saw your note to him and remembered exactly who you and your other half were, and knew you were watching him from the curb.
