Subject: RE: Great performance for BT Pro Thomas Gerlach at IMLOU today Originally posted by reecealan
Under warm conditions he almost ran down the winner (Chris McDonald) after being down 3 or so minutes during the run. Finished only 15 secconds back.
Congratulations Tom!
He told me earlier this year this was the race he was lining up to get his first W.
Thomas is about ready to have a breakthrough if this past year and a half hasn't been yet. He's a good friend of mine. Couple weeks ago, week leading into Steelhead I ran into him going out for a ride, he was coming in from a 5 hour ride. We did 2 impromptu TT's of 28 and 15 mins partially on the IMWI course. I was riding at 315w and I couldn't drop him, he was on me like a fat kid on a cupcake. Oh and he was on a 40lb commuter.
Then he went and raced at Steelhead, and last weekend raced at Pigman in high heat. Guy is an absolute monster, he usually does a lot of racing in a short span and has some killer results. I actually have been with him on a Friday swim when he dips out and on a whim goes and races a half 2 days later and gets the W. I stopped mid-ride today and kicked up the feed to see him chase down Big Sexy. If that race was another 200 meters he would've gotten the W, he made Chris work for it, and Chris probably wouldn't have made it another 10- meters.
Chattanooga has a massive field so far, depending how many actually show, even though Thomas will race IMWI, he will probably pull the plug on the run somewhere unless he is winning. Hoping for a big results in Chattanooga. At least this time I will be present.
EDIT: just talked to him, 16 seconds look at his transitions, says it stings a bit but he wanted to be conservative, will never know how it could have played out. Edited by bcagle25 2014-08-24 11:30 PM
