Ok I know this was stupid and my body crying about it today. ..... Just for my own fun I did my own triathlon last night.

Swim 400m breast stroke 13min
Bike 20km 60mins
Run 5km 41mins
T1/T2 6mins

No preparation no warm up no real training. ..... Just wanted personal times to work from. Please for doing it even if against the grain.

Thoughts and feedback please

Sounds a bit stupid yes, from what I read you haven't trained very long. But if you felt good afterwards, why not?

I work away from home and hotel rooms are boring so initially was just going for a leisurely swim but then thought ah bugger it. ... lol. .... Probably hurt loads tomorrow. .... Lots of stretching today though. .... Although sat in truck for 10hrs won't help!

Why not? As long as you didn't hurt yourself and enjoyed the experience, sounds like a great use of an otherwise boring time. I've done quite a few DIY "triathlons" on vacation, and even a few DIY marathons just because I found somewhere really nice to run. Even a DIY 60 km ultra run involving a bet and a seafood dinner. When training for my first Olympic distance tri, when I explained the event to my mom, her comment was that it sounded like what I do most days on vacation anyway. As for speed, we all have to start somewhere. But you've clearly taken the hardest ones--off the couch.

I've been planning to do my own HIM and feel kinda stupid.

Entry fees are too high for me, but I love training (even though mine has bottomed out in the last two weeks due to long work hours)

I plan on doing it in about three weeks or so.

The local tri club here did something like this.  You were pretty much on your own for support but a few folks came out to offer encouragement.  I swam with a small group but it was a cold, rainy, windy day and only one guy did the whole thing.  You might want to check around your area to see if anyone wants to join you.  It might make it more fun.

I've done this several times during IM training. It's not the same experience as an actual race day. No adrenaline, no cheering, no clock except your own. So for training it works as a long day and confidence boost, but that's about all.

I don't think it was stupid. I think that "just for my own fun" is a great reason for doing almost anything.
I find that my body is used to s /b /r and I very seldom feel sore from training. I like the idea of adding variety and doing something that hurts because it's different every once in a while.

I would guess that most people, up to and including the pros, don't typically train in all three disciplines every day. Most programs would have you doing one or two. But particularly for someone just starting out, there's value to doing a "walk through" of all three just to get a feel for pacing, transitions, etc. It doesn't necessarily have to be at a race effort, and probably shouldn't for beginners. I suppose one could race a DIY event; I don't, just enjoy swimming/biking/running whever I happen to be.
