Subject: NEED QUICK ADVICE!!!!! Please!!
I am training for IMFL on November 1. Training is going great. I had a recovery week this week and was ending it with an Olympic Tri tomorrow AM. Due to flooding and weather course was just changed to a sprint. Basically, I have to be out of transition by 6:45 AM and won't race until well after 9 AM. Thinking now that this is a waste of time. It's in my own city, so easy to skip and do a long bike ride for next week's schedule. I am having a tough time making a decision. I did not pay for this race- free entry from a friend. Was just doing it for "fun" and racing experience/training workout. Should I ditch this due to the sprint distance and dangerous technical 2-loop course and do a 5-6 hour workout tomorrow instead??? What would you recommend?? My husband says skip it and spend the time more wisely! I am wishy-washy.

Thanks!

Me personally... I'd skip the race and train.

I'd skip it too. A sprint isn't going to be much training benefit or racing experience benefit for you.  You're training for an IM, and a sprint is such a different kind of race not much transfers.  Sprint is hard all out effort from start to finish, and HIM and IM is controlled steady pace all day.

If you've planned your recovery week to include an Olympic triathlon tomorrow, then I suggest doing a 40K bike/ 10K run brick or even preface it with a 1500 meter pool swim. Then your week goes as planned, ending with an Olympic distance SBR.

Yeah I'd skip it. When I have a sprint in my training plan, I tend to still work out but knock some time off and definitely take it easy. I try to do the bike ride the day before before, do the race the next day, and then just knock off ~20-30 minutes off my long run after the race.

I raced. Ran on Saturday and will swim and run Monday. Got 1st in my AG if that accounts for anything. Thanks!

Great job Jen!

People can go either way on doing occasional races in their training. I like the sprint more than the Oly. Having been in long course focus, it's more likely that the sprint would have you pushing up in Z4 a bit more, which you still need from time to time, while also not needing as much recovery since the event isn't as big. Neither distance is anywhere close to an IM, so race experience would all be just being out on a course anyway.

Thanks! Aside from some blisters from not wearing socks in my shoes I feel good. Ran 4 miles this am and swam a 2000. 5 hour bike/30 min run brick tomorrow!! Feeling pretty recovered already!

So what is the best way to lose weight quickly? Do you simply "starve yourself” by eating as little as possible? The answer depends on your long-term goals.
