Sunny
Total Time = 1h 59m 40s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 16/19
Pre-race routine:

Got up nice and early, had a bagel with PB. Spent too much time on the phone with sis-in-law trying to get her to the hotel. Had to haul serious tail to the event.
Event warmup:

Brisk walk to make it to transition in time to set up.
Swim
  • 11m 3s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 46s / 100 meters
Comments:

Sucked water on 2 consecutive strokes. Managed to cough out the first one under water (I practice that), but took more water when I needed the bigger breath... not good. Side stroke for 2/3, back to freestyle for last 1/3
What would you do differently?:

CALM DOWN!!
Transition 1
  • 02m 35s
Comments:

Didn't rush, kept it smooth. Firehouse Subs pickle bucked helps!
What would you do differently?:

Maybe practice?
Bike
  • 50m 41s
  • 14 miles
  • 16.57 mile/hr
Comments:

I pushed the bike hard because the run was going to be bad anyways. I live in farmland... not much hill training available.
What would you do differently?:

Find some hills... or get a good trainer. Not push so hard.
Transition 2
  • 02m 11s
Comments:

Nice calm in and out.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe practice
Run
  • 53m 10s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 15m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

I knew this was going to be bad. Pushing the bike made it worse. I did manage to run a bit, but there was no gas left in the tank. I'm not sure if nutrition would have helped to be perfectly honest.
What would you do differently?:

Train, Train, Train, then TRAIN MORE!
Post race
Warm down:

cold towel over the head and stumbled around looking for my family... They showed up 20 mins later.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Fitness, pure and simple.

Event comments:

They ran out of Sprint distance finisher's medallions... bummer!

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
