Pretty happy with myself.
I was hoping for anywhere close to 3 hours.
Did it in 2:57
My run was where I hoped it would be. Maybe a hair faster, but not much. I figured on at some point taking a nice brisk walking break. It hasn't been uncommon for me to do that as I've pushed run distances up and over 6 miles. Only time was when I stopped to actually drink something at two of the aid stations, as opposed to the usual spilling of water towards my mouth out of a Dixie cup.

My bike was a little faster than I hoped. Hard to know when the course is so different than what I train on.
Swim went swimmingly.

Overall, I'm certainly learning more about how to knit this all together like what I need to eat for breakfast...and since I've decided that 2+ hours is enough for a guy like me to start needing to think about 'nutrition', I followed the nutrition gameplan (nothing more than a banana and a quarter of a Salted Nut Roll) that I'd researched and tested in various stages. Followed my pace gameplan (except maybe went a bit faster on the bike than I planned....but not knowing the course and not having a bike computer/etc...it's all guesswork for me). It all seemed to work. Nothing like feeling stronger for the last half of the run than the first half.

And a big thanks to LeftBrain for hooking me up with some help.

Things I'd do different:
1. wear sunscreen on the drive up the day before (I will burn if I stand in front of the fridge too long with the door open) Fortunately, I wasn't fried or even in any discomfort, but it caused me some extra time in transition as I took a little more care with sunscreen to avoid getting fried.
2. Take sweatpants. Holy moly it was cold yesterday morning, waiting for the race to start.

Oh, for those not familiar with the Salted Nut Roll...
It's a northern Midwest thing. Kinda like a Payday but FAR SUPERIOR.
I got the Payday idea from reading about how someone else here does it. Not that I 'need' the salt on a cool day of an Olympic where I'm drinking water appropriately. And not that a Salted Nut Roll has far more protein than a Payday....like I need protein on that event or that my body would even have access to it by the time I was done....

I just wanted an excuse to eat one. I love them. I don't eat much candy bars since losing the weight. I considered it practice for when I might need it. The banana, though, I think definitely helped with some sugar.

Also, being that Salted Nut Rolls only show up in St. Louis at Walgreens at Christmastime....I was fortunate enough to find them...KING SIZE...in the Dollar Store. Cheaper than you can get them in Minnesota and Iowa!! WOOOT!

I quickly browsed an article in Men's Health that talked about doing a triathlon, and how it wasn't really that hard. With a "tsk!" I quickly turned the page while thinking, "Yeah, right!"

My 1st triathlon, Xterra and the mess I made of myself. This wasn’t your regular triathlon, it was off-road.
