Hello all!

6:30am:  2 hours on the KK followed by 30 mins strength + core.  Then 3.5 hours in the sun watching high school soccer!  Great day!

I went on an epic sightseeing run of D.C. this morning. 90 minutes of running past the Capitol, Washington monument, reflecting pool, honest Abe, and the narrow staircase seen below. If you know the significance of that staircase, reply with the correct answer and you get a prize. The best part though was stopping to shake the hand of a WW2 vet and thank him for what he did, it was an honor.

Very cool run! I love run sightseeing but haven't had th chance for a while. European cities are great early AM when all the bakeries are baking, often with their doors open and bread going out to be delivered.

No such fun here. 1:50 run on what had to be one of the hottest days of the year. High 80s when I started (before 6 AM) and only got hotter. PM 3200m of swimming, which felt really good, because it wasn't hot. Of courae it rained while I was swimming (swim was indoors) so it then cooled down about 20 degrees. Rainy season is a pain--rain usually falls too late in the day to allow a long run in daylight and out of rush hour traffic, and the cooling effect doesn't last long.

Are you training for any race in particular right now?

Yep. Angkor Wat Half Marathon in Cambodia first week of December. Just maintenance for bike and swim. Giving up on tri for the year, as none of the Singapore races aligned with our long weekends, and/or were very early in our school term when I'm too busy. I pretty much do Angkor Wat every year with some friends, and haven't had a good race there for a couple years. I guess I'm too stupid to give up on it. Plus it's a beautiful course and for good causes (landmine victims, education and sports programs for kids). Normally conditions are quite pleasant (by SE Asia standards) as by that time it's dry season and it's cooler and drier further west in this region. Typically mid 60's at start and high 70's to 80 by the end with fairly low humidity. There's only been one year when conditions were quite miserable out of maybe six times that I have done the event; still not as bad as yesterday.

But it's a real b.... to train for as almost all the time leading up to the race will be hot and wet here in Saigon. Yesterday I checked the temp on my home thermometer before I headed out the door at 5:45 AM and it was already 86. Plus very high humidity. Ugh! Starting even earlier gets one a few degrees cooler temps but even higher humidity, so really no point. Thus my last posting on shoes with better drainage. Heading to Bangkok in two weeks (which is even hotter/more humid than here) and hoping to score some.

Feeling confident and cocky, after finally losing some weight, I got off my back side and into triathlon.
