Usually human beings are not good at sports. For example a pig could run faster than human 100 meters champion.
But if a race is 1.5 km swimming and 10 km running. Do you think any animal can beat human?

Moose?

I do not think River Otter is good at long distance running.

I'm slow clapping this thread. COJ is getting its groove back. Atta boy.

Apparently dogs, wolves, hyena, and antelope are the best distance runners in the animal kingdom. I read that on the internet. So my money is on Norman the bike riding dog. He's already got the run in the bag, and If he can learn to ride a bike, I'm sure he can swim just fine, so game on.

I think people can beat dogs. They do not seem to swim that fast. dogs can run but for 6.2 miles are they going to be any faster?

Alligator?  Swim faster and run faster than people.  The distance may get them though.

Dog is a biring answer to the question, but no doubt some of those Iditarod dogs can crush it for 10k and longer. Bet they'd smoke people over distances. Anyone know the daily effort those dogs put in? Would like to see their power output like they show for riders in the TdF.

I though about crocs and alligators too. Read online that even though are fast runners they tire after 30 meters or so.

Hippos.  They can run up to 30 mph.  (Who knew?)

They would definitely need a good 2/1 Galloway Run/walk strategy.

The challenge may be nutrition/hydration strategy. Is this hypothetical race self supported?

Ok so this thread got me thinking....

My girlfriend rescued an abandoned baby field mouse a few months ago and keeps it in a little hamster cage with a wheel in it. The little thing sleeps all day but then runs all night like she's training for an IM. So last night I attached my bike computer to the wheel and entered in the correct wheel size. Turns out the little bugger ran 2 and a quarter miles last night! Not bad for a field mouse the size of a thumb.
