Pre-race routine:

Coffee, electrolyte drink, half a bagel for breakfast.
Event warmup:

Light run for a warm up, about 10min. Tried to loosen the left IT band.

Comments:

Felt great, was catching up with the same fellow on every downhill and he was passing me on the ups. Some passed me at 3.5km when I slowed down in the valley.
Tied with the 6th in my age category when sprinted at the finish, caught up to her right at the very end.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster through the valley because walking the big hill provided some recovery.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched well after at Tao on a roller while waiting for Natalia.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Ran cautiously because of the last week's IT band problem. It seemed okay during the run, only some sensitivity.
Would start a bit closer to the start of the group, started in the middle and it was hard to pass on the downhill single track.

Event comments:

Great course to run right in the city. Short and sweet, and challenging. Expensive though, can do it by myself any time.

I can train for half marathons on pavement and on trails, but as soon as I change it up to gravel or loose dirt my knee swells and the pain it causes is unreal. Any ideas why this happens?
