So far I have been perusing craigslist, ebay and of course, BT. I'm not in the "buy" zone just yet. My plan to upgrade to a tri-bike is to wait until November, however I have been keeping an eye on the above noted places for any out of this world deals, in which case I would jump early. I was curious if there are any other online forums for sales that are popular.

We have a great facebook group, British Columbia Bicycle Classifieds. It was started by a local racer, and though there are hundreds of people buying and selling stuff, you are sure to know the other person by at most 3 degrees of separation, so it's working really well. Maybe there is something like that in your area?

Be sure to scope out slowtwitch.com classifieds too.  I've been able to buy and sell components there.

If there is a fall ironman in your region, have your cash ready. For some reason, the week after the race, CL will be swamped with bikes: "only ridden outside for 112 miles"...funny, isn't it?

That's hilarious. But totally makes sense.

You may want to go direct to manufacturer.
They typically start blowing out older models right about now.
You can pick up model year 2013 Cannondale Slices or Giant Trinity or Trek or BMC even Orbea Ordu.
Do some digging.
Also, get on Twitter and follow your favorite manufacturers and they will tell you when things are on sale.

Brand new 2013 is better than used 2012 or older for same money.

eBay is ok. But I would never buy another frame or bike from there. I got burned on a frame.
CL ? I found a great entry level Cannondale Slice for $900 in my size (I rock a 58 or bigger) but you gotta stay on point with that.
I didn't get the Slice because I don't need a entry level bike. But it was there.
BL is ok. Sometimes it can be a feeding fest if something cool comes around.

I hope this helps.

Make sure to add the word bicyle in there somewhere or your search results might not be what you're expecting...

The trick to buying a used bike at a good price is to be ready when the opportunity presents itself. Have the money set aside and wait until you find the bike you've been looking for (and don't settleā€¦). Know what you want and how much you're willing to pay for it and then just jump on it.

BT, Slowtwitch, local groups tend to be the best places to look. Craigslist can work out, but more often then not, people don't really know what they're selling, so you can end up with a poorly maintained bike (which will require lots of parts to make it functional again..); be aware of the hidden costs of buying used.

Friend of mine runs a used bike store, mainly online but since he's local I've got an advantage.   Highly recommend him!  Now they are also carrying Blue bikes at steep discounts.

Try your LBS too. They may know of someone who has a bike they are looking to get rid of. Or they may have something that has been on the floor all year that they want to get rid of on the cheap.
