Comments:

Had a horrible bike split. I could not make power and was getting depressed as the ride went on. I thought something was wrong with me. Over training? getting sick? oh-man horrible? I make more power on my recovery rides. What is going on???? I will explain below
What would you do differently?:

Take a taxi
Transition 2
  • 05m 20s
Comments:

My wife started in a wave 8 min behind me. All I could think of was she is going to beat me and I will never hear the end of this. What happened on the bike?? My legs are on fire. WTF?
What would you do differently?:

stay focused
Run
  • 2h 21m 21s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

my legs were shot from bike. I just wanted to survive. I figured let me just stay at a 10 min pace and all would be well. That worked until mile 8 and I started walking water stations. It was humid and sunny, then cold and cloudy, then just windy and muggy. I could not drink enough.
Post race
Warm down:

pizza and beer. Beat my wife by 26 seconds. she was pissed. :o)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

After the race I was trying to figure out what happened with my LBS. I was hit by a car July 29th at a state park. My frame was destroyed. My LBS replaced my frame and put my bike back together based on my last fit. Something happened to my fit file from the month prior. The LBS put together the bike based on a fit from 2 years ago with a 172.5mm crank and a different saddle. I have a 165mm super compact and a Adamo road saddle. I did not notice becouse I was recouping from some nasty injuries. I train on a b16 99% of the time and only really use this tt bike for racing. My wife actually made more power then me

Event comments:

Second time doing this race, I think its the best 70.3 there is.

Some mistakes I made during the Hawaii Ironman 70.3. Don't be caught out on the course not knowing how or not having the equipment to change a flat tire.

It was the morning of Ironman Newfoundland 70.3, I felt queasy. I didn't want to eat or drink anything. I had a full blown case of the pre-race HEEBEE GEEBEES.

A bad race left me smoldering, but time and a gentle breeze ignited my passion to race again.
